Virginia gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe today called on Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli to recuse his office from all involvement in an ongoing royalty case in Southwest Virginia. A federal judge expressed “shock” last week that Cuccinelli’s office was offering legal advice to companies who have not paid royalties to Southwest Virginia landowners.
“When he was found to have unreported gifts and stock in Star Scientific, it took a lot of public pressure for him to recuse himself before he finally agreed to do so. In this case, it makes sense to just step away now instead of repeating the same drawn out process again.”
