massanuttenDuring the week of February 23-27, Massanutten Resort will host several educational events for professional ski and snowboard instructors.  Members of the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) and American Association of Snowboard Instructors (AASI) will arrive at Massanutten Resort from neighboring resorts throughout Pennsylvania, Maryland, North Carolina, West Virginia, and Virginia.  The purpose of these educational events is to provide further education and evaluation of skill levels of instructors.

Several events will focus on increasing the knowledge base and performance level of instructors to advance their ability to teach and train at higher levels.  Other events will focus on evaluation of knowledge base and performance levels.  These events will be for both alpine skiing and snowboarding.

One new event this season is an Alpine Level 2 Exam College.  The first of only two of these events this season was held earlier in the season at Killington Resort, Vermont.  Massanutten Resort is hosting the second. This five-day event includes three days of on-snow coaching followed by two days of on-snow evaluation.   Paul Crenshaw, Massanutten’s Snow Sports Learning Center Manager says, “I am really proud that Massanutten Resort was chosen to host this important event, with the only other host location being Killington in Vermont. We are known for our great facilities and slopes as well as high participation levels in all of the events we host.”

The leaders for these events will come from as far away as Maine and will spend between 2 – 5 days at Massanutten Resort.  The events are part of the Eastern Division of American Snowsports Education Association (ASEA) which oversees all National Standards of the PSIA and AASI Programs.
