Longwood softball gives back to the community

longwood logoWith the start of the fall semester underway, the Longwood softball program has taken the time to give back to the local community.

The Lancers enjoyed an opportunity to spend a day at the White Bird Appaloosa Horse Rescue in nearby Burkeville, Va., where the squad helped care for horses that had been rescued. The squad cleaned stalls, filled water buckets before later walking the horses from the pasture to their stalls and grooming them.

“We had a blast this past weekend helping out on the horse farm,” said Elizabeth McCarthy, the 2015 Big South Pitcher of the Year. “It’s always very humbling to meet and work with people who devote their lives to helping improve the lives of animals. It was especially great for all of us on the team to be able to work together towards a common goal and give back to our community.”

The White Bird Appaloosa Horse Rescue is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation to Appaloosa and other horses. The organization provides shelter, care and rehabilitation services to horses in need. To learn more about White Bird Appaloosa Horse Rescue, visitwww.whitebirdapps.com.

The Lancers return five 2015 Big South all-conference selections for 2016, including Big South Pitcher of the Year Biz McCarthy, first team selections Justina Augustine and Emily Murphy, and second team selections Kelsey Sweeney and Glenn Walters.
