Freshman kicker John Griggs punched in a 33-yard field goal midway through the fourth quarter to break a 14-14 deadlock and the Bridgewater defense got a late hold as the Eagles moved to 3-0 on the season with a 17-14 victory over the visiting Shenandoah Hornets in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener at Jopson Field.

Bridgewater (3-0, 1-0 ODAC) was paced offensively by junior Willie Logan’s 261 yards through the air. Logan threw two touchdowns on the afternoon, including a 63-yard strike in the third quarter to junior Shawn Lee.

The Eagles’ defense allowed the visiting Hornets to amass just 212 yards on the offensive end as Bridgewater held its third-straight opponent to under 100 yards on the ground. Junior linebacker Andrew Palmer led the Bridgewater defense with a game-high 12 tackles, including three for a loss.

Shenandoah was paced by Cory Taylor’s 9-of-16 effort for 125 yards.
