tim kaineU.S. Sen. Tim Kaine, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations and Armed Services Committees, released the following statement today on the new Memorandum of Understanding on security assistance with Israel.

“After regular engagement with the Administration and Israeli government on this issue, I am pleased that an agreement has been reached to provide Israel with an unprecedented level of U.S. military assistance in a consistent manner over the next decade. The United States maintains an unshakeable commitment to Israel’s security, its people and its future, and this deal is a tangible sign of our support to our strongest regional ally. I particularly applaud this deal for providing Israel the first-ever multi-year missile defense assurance made by the United States to protect it and its citizens from attacks by terrorist groups, such as Hezbollah and Hamas, and threats from Iran.”

Senator Kaine has been a steadfast supporter of the U.S. strategic partnership with Israel and ensuring that Israel has the tools and resources necessary to respond to and defend itself against evolving threats in the Middle East. In numerous meetings with Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Senator Kaine discussed the urgency and importance of concluding a robust MOU to strengthen our bilateral security cooperation and to guarantee Israel’s Qualitative Military Edge.
