Interstate 81 lane closures in Shenandoah County begin Sunday

interstate 81Paving and drainage work on Interstate 81 in Shenandoah County may affect traffic beginning Sunday and continuing into mid-June. These operations will require overnight lane closures as well as shoulder closures during daytime and nighttime hours.

Southbound I-81 overnight lane closures between mile markers 286 and 282, including on- and off-ramps at Exit 283 (Woodstock), are scheduled for Monday, May 23, through Friday, May 27.  Milling, paving and pavement marking operations are scheduled from 8 p.m. each night through 7 a.m. the following morning.  Estimated completion of this project is June 16.

Northbound I-81 between mile markers 293 and 296 is scheduled to have right shoulder closures for drainage work as follows:

  • Sunday, May 22, through Thursday, May 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. The scheduled completion date for this work is June 3.
  • Sunday night, May 22, through the morning of Friday, May 27, from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. The scheduled completion date for this work is June 9.

All work is weather permitting.
