Boenel Records recording artists, Too Human with Ellen Schwartz and Roger Bruno, will return to WTA’s Gateway onSaturday, March 15 at 8:00pm. The trio plays extensively across the United States and will share their jazz repertory at the Wayne Theatre Alliance’s Gateway at 329 West Main in Downtown Waynesboro.
Whether performing breezy, jazzy, toe tapping swing, a bluesy, heartfelt ballad, or a familiar standard from the American Songbook, Too Human will move you with their music. With guitar, percussion and vocals, they have a jazzy / bluesy feel. Their original songs are relevant and stirring; and they will bring back fond memories with songs like “Pennies from Heaven,” “It Had To Be You,” “I’ve Got A Crush On You” and many others from the 30s and 40s. Ellen’s earthy voice combines perfectly with Roger’s unusual percussion style and sweet vocals. High quality musicianship with humor and passion, totally in sync with each other, they create a strong and intimate atmosphere. As one reviewer has said, “Singing with passion and joy … Too Human put smiles on our faces.”
Hailing from New York, both Ellen and Roger have had music in their lives from a very early age. Roger was studying accordion by the time he was 5, and Ellen was harmonizing by the age of 3. Over the years they both explored different musical genres and instruments, but what remained constant was the song and the passion of singing.
They eventually became professional songwriters in Los Angeles, on staff with publishing giant Warner/Chappell Music, where they had their songs covered by a broad spectrum of recording artists including Cher, Pat Benatar, Teddy Pendergrass, Martha Davis (of the Motels), Angela Bofill, Agnetha Foltskog (of ABBA), Anne Murray, Nancy Wilson, and Ramsey Lewis. Their songs have been heard on TV shows including Fame, General Hospital and As The World Turns.
After a while they decided to give up the mainstream corporate music world, moved back east and became Too Human.
Too Human’s performance is sponsored by Frank and Gayle Mapstone. Althought the show begins at 8:00 pm, doors open at7:30pm.
