austin nicholsFormer Top 25 national recruit Austin Nichols is headed to UVA. Nichols confirmed his decision in an interview on ESPN Radio on Sunday.

Nichols, a 6’9” sophomore forward, averaged 13.3 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.4 blocks per game at Memphis in 2014-2015.

He will have to sit out the 2015-2016 season, under NCAA transfer rules, and then will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Nichols had listed UVA as his top target after deciding to transfer, but according to reports, Memphis had tried to block UVA because the two schools are scheduled to compete in the 2016 Emerald Coast Classic.

After hiring a lawyer, Nichols was able to get a full unconditional release from Memphis.

Nichols’ list of interested suitors included Duke, Notre Dame and Wisconsin.
