Holiday Extravaganza set for Dec. 9-10 at Bridgewater College

bridgewater collegeBridgewater College will present a holiday extravaganza of familiar Christmas carols on Friday, Dec. 9, at 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday, Dec. 10, at 3 p.m. Both performances will be in the Carter Center for Worship and Music and are free and open to the public.

The extravaganza includes the Symphonic Band and the Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Christine Carrillo, assistant professor of music and director of instrumental music.

The Chorale and the Concert Choir will perform under the direction of Dr. John McCarty, assistant professor of music and director of choral music. Lacey Johnson, instructor of music, will accompany the Chorale and the Concert Choir on piano.

A special feature of the extravaganza is “Christmas in Concert,” a work for band and choir composed by Dr. Larry Taylor, associate professor and chair of the department of music.

Friday’s program will include a woodwind quintet, a gospel choir, a brass quintet and a percussion ensemble.

Saturday’s program will include A Cappella Fellas, a saxophone quintet, a tuba euphonium quartet and Chordially Yours.

Bridgewater College is a private, four-year liberal arts college located in the Central Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Founded in 1880, it was the state’s first private, coeducational college. Today, Bridgewater College is home to nearly 1,900 undergraduate students.
