Harrisonburg Downtown Holiday Tour slated for Dec. 5

Contributors

harrisonburg downtownOn Saturday, Dec. 5, from 11am to 4pm, eight exceptional homes, downtown lofts, and businesses will be on display and beautifully decorated for the holidays. Presented by Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance, the Downtown Holiday Tour is celebrating its eighth year, and will include new features for attendees to enjoy.

The Downtown Holiday Tour begins at the new City Hall building, where guests can pick up their wristbands and maps while appreciating the main entrance, beautiful atrium, and the holiday tree with ornaments made by local artists before strolling to Old Town. Old Town homes featured on the tour include the Joshua Wilton House, a classic Victorian home with all of its original charm; the Franklin Street House, a wonderfully renovated cottage with beautiful wood work; and the Campbell Street House, a house that is reducing its impact on the environment with the use of solar panels.

The tour continues at Jack’s Hideaway; The Golden Pony; and at the office of The Harrisonburg Homes Team. These spaces are examples of the adaptive reuse of older buildings to meet the needs of contemporary businesses. Finally, attendees will have the opportunity to explore the gothic architecture and beautiful stained glass windows at St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ.

New features of the tour include a specialty “Tour & Tea” ticket that includes tea and refreshments after the tour at Heritage Bakery & Café.  Tour & Tea tickets are limited, and must be purchased prior to December 1. An online auction will also offer holiday shoppers an opportunity to purchase unique gifts such as downtown gift certificates, massage packages, and a custom jewelry making experience with Hugo Kohl. The auction will be live during the week of the event.

Advance tour tickets are available to purchase online at www.downtownharrisonburg.org and in the Rocktown Gift Shoppe at 212 South Main Street in the Hardesty-Higgins House for $20 each. Tickets may be purchased at the event for $25 at City Hall.

The Downtown Holiday Tour is proudly sponsored by Valley Roots Team at Kline May Realty, LD&B Insurance and Financial Services, Blue Ridge Insurance, Nielsen Builders, and many other downtown businesses and supporters.
