opioid crisisCongressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement after participating in this week’s House Energy and Commerce Committee hearings examining the opioid crisis.

“The opioid epidemic is among the most pressing public health challenges of our time. The Energy and Commerce Committee has jurisdiction over health, giving it a leading role in legislating solutions and conducting oversight over efforts to address this crisis.

“As Vice Chairman of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations and a member of the Subcommittee on Health, I participated in three days of hearings that involved 20 witnesses who represented all facets of this crisis, spanning people recovering from addiction to health care providers to law enforcement officials.

“Based on the testimony I heard and the questions I asked, I came away with a better idea of how we can tackle this insidious epidemic. These hearings provided valuable guidance as Congress strives to address this crisis.”
