First three UVA football practices open to the public

UVaHelmet_1The UVA football team’s first three practices of the fall will be open to the public. The practices are scheduled for Friday, Aug. 7, Saturday, Aug. 8 and Sunday, Aug. 9. Friday’s practice will start at 7 p.m., while Saturday and Sunday’s practices will start at 3 p.m. Each practice will be held on the fields behind the McCue Center. The practice sessions will last approximately two hours.

Parking is available for free after 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 7, and all day Saturday and Sunday in the McCue Center and University Hall lots.

Fans can watch the practice from the outdoor field, but will not have access to any activities that take place in the George Welsh Indoor Practice Facility. In the event of inclement weather, fans will have to leave the practice facility.

Movie Night at Scott Stadium
The popular animated film Despicable Me 2 will be shown on Aug. 8 on Scott Stadium’s Hoo Vision screen. Fans are asked to park in Scott Stadium’s east parking lot and enter using the east gate, which will open at 6 p.m. The movie is slated to start at 7 p.m. Fans are welcome to view the movie from the field and are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs. Seating is also available in the stands at Scott Stadium and snacks and beverages will be available for purchase at the concessions stands on the west concourse.

Meet the Team Day Information
Virginia’s Meet the Team Day, sponsored by Charlottesville Fashion Square Mall, will take place on Sunday, Aug. 16 at John Paul Jones Arena. Members of the men’s soccer, women’s soccer, cross country, field hockey and volleyball teams will be available for photos and autographs starting at 12:30 p.m. The football team will be available for photos and autographs from 1-2:30 p.m. The main entrance as well as the arena’s southeast and garage entrances will be used for this event, opening at 12:30 p.m. Free parking will be available in the JPJ and University Hall surface lots.

The first 500 youth in attendance (grades 8 and below per NCAA regulations) at Meet the Teams Day will receive a free Nike mini football. Posters and schedule cards will be available for fans while supplies last. Additionally, the Cavalier Team Shop in the arena’s lobby will be open and concession stands featuring beverages and snacks will be available on the arena floor.

All fans in attendance will have the opportunity to win door prizes, including 2015 season tickets and autographed memorabilia. Cavman and his horse, Sabre, will be in attendance along with members of the Virginia spirit teams.
Virginia opens its season Sept. 5 at UCLA at the Rose Bowl. Kickoff is at 3:30 p.m. ET.
