FedEx to open ground distribution facility in Staunton

staunton2editsFedEx Ground will soon be constructing a new distribution center in the Green Hills Industrial Park in Staunton, Virginia. The facility will measure more than 200,000 square feet and will be positioned on approximately 30 acres. It is scheduled to be completed in July 2016.

The new center will replace an existing station in Fishersville, allowing the company to continue to meet and exceed customer demands in the region. While the new facility is expected to open with many positions transferring from the current facility, additional positions will be added as necessary to support increased demand for service.

The site was chosen because of its ease of access to major highways, its proximity to customers’ distribution centers and a strong local community workforce for recruiting employees. The new facility is part of a nationwide network expansion to boost daily package volume capacity and further enhance the speed and service capabilities of the FedEx Ground network. The network enhancements have resulted in accelerating ground service delivery by one day or more in more than two-thirds of the United States. With these changes, FedEx Ground is faster to more overall locations, including more residential areas, than the competition.

Since 2005, the company has opened 11 new hubs featuring advanced material-handling systems and expanded or relocated more than 500 local facilities.

Mayor Carolyn Dull says she welcomes the new addition to the City’s industrial park: “We are pleased that FedEx Ground decided to bring their operations to Staunton. The City welcomes dynamic companies such as FedEx, and we look forward to their continued growth in the years to come.”

FedEx’s new facility will be located next to established Staunton businesses such as Cadence, Carded Graphics, Best Buy Distribution Center, Dominion Virginia Power, Shenandoah Valley Water, Union Bank Operations and Dr. Pepper Distribution.
