Contributors

longwood universityIn advance of the vice presidential debate at Longwood University, students, faculty and staff there will participate in an exercise tomorrow afternoon in which they will face some of the difficult budget choices awaiting the next administration and Congress.

The “Principles & Priorities” exercise, developed by the non-partisan Concord Coalition, calls for participants to work in small groups to develop plans to put the federal budget on a more sustainable course. They will discuss and vote on dozens of proposals involving taxes, defense, Medicare, Social Security and other domestic issues.

The program will run from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Blackwell Ballroom on the university campus. Sara Imhof, Concord’s director of education and grassroots advocacy, will conduct the exercise.

This is the first in a series of programs on the federal budget that Concord is presenting at universities where this year’s presidential and vice presidential debates are to be held.
