greyson lambertMultiple news outlets are confirming that former UVA starting quarterback Greyson Lambert is transferring to Georgia. The news comes down on Wednesday, a day after published reports indicated interest from UGA coach Mark Richt, who had recruited Lambert, a Georgia prep star, out of high school.

“It’s just like I’ve said all along: First of all, everybody’s gotta compete with whoever’s there,” Richt told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “We recruit every year. It’s an interesting dynamic of the timing. But it’s really not a whole lot different than recruiting anybody. Every year we recruit. Every year we bring in guys. Every year you go compete for your job and win it.”

Lambert graduated from UVA in May and would be eligible to compete immediately for Georgia, which had an open battle in the spring between three quarterbacks in the mix to replace one-year starter Hutson Mason.

Lambert began the 2014 season as the starter at Virginia, and started nine games overall, throwing for 1,972 yards, 10 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in nine starts.

He lost his job in the spring after being outperformed by his 2014 backup Matt Johns, and announced last month that he intended to transfer after receiving his degree.
