Dinner Diva: Seven reasons you should be using coconut oil

the-dinner-divaI’m never without a great big jar of coconut oil. I use this magical, versatile, and healthful substance in everything from baked goods and stir fries to smoothies and coffee. (But I admit that I also use coconut oil to soften my hair, remove my eye makeup, and I add in to my bath too!)

So, what’s so special about coconut oil?

Answer: Lots of things, but the main reason I use it is because it is such a healthy, all-purpose oil.

Let’s take a quick look at some of the health benefits of this marvelous oil:

  • It’s rich in fat soluble vitamins (vitamins A, D, E, and K)
  • It has antiviral properties, so it keeps fungus and yeast at bay
  • Coconut oil increases metabolism
  • It may protect against cancer and diabetes
  • Coconut oil is wonderful for bone health
  • Your immune system gets a great boost from coconut oil
  • It has a healthy effect on hypothyroidism

If you’re feeling low on energy, try taking a tablespoon of coconut oil for a little boost and see you get a bit more pep in your step!

Not only is coconut oil extremely healthy, but it has a very mild flavor and a lovely tropical aftertaste. I love the taste of coconut oil as much as I love how good it is for me!

When you’re shopping for coconut, always buy organic, virgin coconut oil. (Preferably fair-trade, like Nutiva brand.)

If your coconut oil isn’t virgin, it isn’t as rich in taste and nutrients.
