Dance the Night Away in Lexington on May 20 at Rock the Bridge

newspaperLooking for a dance party, food trucks and craft beers? Want to support a vital downtown Lexington? Do all of that and more at the second annual Rock the Bridge, Friday, May 20, 6 to 10 p.m., on the Nelson Street Bridge in Lexington, Virginia.

Sponsored by Main Street Lexington, the festivities will feature music by Graham Spice & the Savories featuring Hoppie Vaughan, plus Shawn Spencer of Star City Swag, performing funk, R&B and soul classics.

Three regional food trucks will serve up a variety of treats: My Takito (Waynesboro), Mexican food; Rock&Roll Diner (Roanoke), sandwiches and tacos; and Homestead Creamery (Wirtz), ice cream.

Beer, cider and wine will be available for purchase. A raffle will enable winners to score prizes from downtown businesses. And vendors will provide such diversions as henna tattoos and caricatures.

The event is underwritten by these generous local sponsors: Kendal at Lexington (premier sponsor), Atlantic Bay (special event sponsor), Davidson & Garrard (supporter), City National Bank (supporter) and DuPont Community Credit Union (supporter).Basic tickets ($5) will be available at the door. Children 12 & under get in free. Tickets may also be purchased in advance at www.rockthebridge.net. Other levels of tickets are Supporter ($15), Patron ($45) and Sustainer ($100). All tickets are tax deductible.

Proceeds will support the work of Main Street Lexington, a volunteer-driven nonprofit that boosts the city’s economic and cultural vitality through a public-private partnership. The organization beautifies downtown (through cleanups, public art, flower planters, window displays, awnings, signage maintenance), produces events (such as the Fourth of July Bike Parade, Candlelight Processional and Tree Lighting, Christmas Parade, Arts on the Block Party, Restaurant Week, Sidewalk Sales, Jingle Bell Run, Virginia Science Festival at Lexington), and promotes economic vitality (with strategic research, community partnerships, new opportunities).
