Culpeper VDOT District Traffic Alerts: Sept. 21-25

road-work-headerThe following highway work is scheduled, weather permitting, in the Culpeper District during the upcoming week. Traffic movements may be restricted and speed limits reduced in work zones. (NEW) or (UPDATE) indicate revisions since last week’s report.

(UPDATE) Route 29/250 Bypass interchange – Contractor is performing excavation work near the ramp, grading and curb installation in the median and constructing a retaining wall at the ramp. Motorists should be alert for equipment entering and exiting the highway.

–        Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.:

  • Intermittent left-turn lane and crossover closures will occur between Angus Road and Hydraulic Road.
  • The westbound Route 250 Bypass right lane will be closed from Hydraulic Road to Barracks Road.
  • The left shoulder of Route 250 Bypass exit ramp to Barracks Road closed.

–        Tuesday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon:

  • The northbound left lane will be closed from Morton Drive to Hydraulic Road.

 

(UPDATE) Rio Road grade-separated intersection – Utility relocation work continues in the vicinity of the Rio Road intersection.

–        Sunday overnight, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.:

  • Rio Road eastbound closed from Route 29 to Albemarle Square.  Motorists should follow the posted detour route via Branchlands Boulevard to Hillsdale Drive to Rio Road East. The Albemarle Square and Fashion Square (Mall Drive) entrances will remain open.
  • Alternating double lane closures on southbound Route 29 from Albemarle Square to Fashion Square Drive.

–        Monday through Wednesday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.:

  • Rio Road westbound closed from Albemarle Square to Route 29. Motorists should follow the posted detour route via Hillsdale Drive to Branchlands Boulevard to Route 29. The Albemarle Square and Fashion Square (Mall Drive) entrances will remain open.
  • Alternating double lane closures on southbound Route 29 from Albemarle Square to Fashion Square Drive.

–        Sunday through Thursday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.:

  • Three outside lanes closed on northbound Route 29 from Berkmar Drive to Albemarle Square.
  • Alternating lane closures on Rio Road East at Route 29.

–        Wednesday and Thursday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.:

  • Two outside lanes closed on southbound Route 29 from Albemarle Square to Fashion Square Drive.

 

(UPDATE) Route 29 widening – Median clearing from Polo Grounds Road to Towncenter Drive.

–        Sunday through Thursday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., inside lanes closed in both directions. Traffic stops of up to 10 minutes will be necessary for safe clearing of trees in median. Expect minor delays.

 

Adaptive traffic signal control system – Rebuilding signal at Berkmar Drive and Woodbrook Drive.

–        Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., the right-turn lanes will be closed in both directions on Woodbrook Drive.

 

Albemarle County

(UPDATE) Interstate 64 – Deck resurfacing of I-64 bridge over Route 637 (Dick Woods Road). Alternating westbound lane closures will occur Monday through Friday between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Interstate 64 – Installation of infrastructure and devices for active traffic management system on Afton Mountain. Left shoulder closed in both directions between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday from mile marker 107 (Crozet exit) to mile marker 94 in Augusta County. Motorists should keep right and use caution approaching the work zone. Anticipated completion Nov. 5.

(NEW) Interstate 64 – Line painting. Mobile lane closures will occur between 7 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. Motorists should use caution around slow-moving equipment and only pass where safe and legal.

Route 53 (Thomas Jefferson Parkway) – Constructing right-turn lane at Route 729 (Milton Road). Monday through Friday from10 a.m. to 3 p.m., westbound lane closed with traffic controlled by flagging. Expect delays. Anticipated completion Nov. 16.

Route 250 (Richmond Road) – Milling and paving from 0.3 mile east of the Interstate 64 interchange at Shadwell to the Fluvanna County line. Flagging will occur overnight beginning Thursday, 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Route 616 (Black Cat Road) – Replacement of bridge over Buckingham Branch Railroad. Road closed at the bridge with traffic detoured via Route 250 (Richmond Road). Anticipated completion Oct. 15.

Route 631 (5th Street) – Milling, paving and line painting from Route 1870 (Ambrose Commons Drive) to 0.2 mile north of the Interstate 64 overpass. Sunday through Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by uniformed police officers. Obey traffic controls and expect minor delays.

Route 677 (Broomley Road) – Replacement of bridge over Buckingham-Branch Railroad. Road closed with southbound traffic detoured right onto Route 677 (Old Ballard Road) to Route 676/678 (Owensville Road) to Route 250 (Ivy Road). Northbound motorists will reverse the detour. Access to all residences and businesses will be maintained during the closure. Anticipated completion Nov. 16.

Route 703 (Pocket Lane) – Paving of gravel road. Mobile lane closures with flagging will occur Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Route 784 (Doctors Crossing) – Paving of gravel road. Wednesday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., mobile lane closures with flagging will occur.

 

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 627, 665 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 635, 636, 684 – Debris removal.
  • Routes 608, 615, 631, 637, 639, 640, 641, 645, 646, 676, 692, 743 – Mowing.
  • Routes 20, 640, 684, 759, 1446 – Pipe replacements.
  • Routes 668, 819 – Should repairs and ditching.
  • Route 1091 – Street sweeping.
  • Route 635 – Pavement patching.

 

 

Culpeper County

Route 3 (Germanna Highway) – Roadway widening to four lanes. Clearing and excavating operations from Route 788 (Lignum Road) to just west of Route 739 (Clay Hills Road). Speed limit reduced to 45 mph in the work zone between Route 788 and just west of Route 669 (Carrico Mills Road). Motorists should be alert for workers near the travel lanes and trucks entering and exiting the highway.

Route 29 (James Madison Highway) – Construction of new interchange at Route 666 (Braggs Corner Road). Intermittent lane closures will occur Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Speed limit reduced to 35 mph on Route 666 through the work zone. Motorists should be alert and use caution through the work zone. Anticipated completion August 2017.

Route 211 (Lee Highway) – Mowing from the Rappahannock County line to the Fauquier County line. Mobile lane closures will occur Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Motorists should obey traffic controls and use caution through the work zone.

(NEW) Various routes – Paving and line striping at the locations listed below. Wednesday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect minor delays.

  • Route 619 (Richards Ferry Road) – From Route 610 to Route 683.
  • Route 642 (Dove Hill Road) – From 1.4 miles north of Route 15 to Route 645.
  • Route 648 (Cedar Ridge Lane) – From Route 15 to Route 15 (loop road).
  • Route 660 (Highland Road) – From Route 647 to dead end.

(NEW) Route 631 (Muddy Run Lane) – Paving of gravel road from Route 229 (Rixeyville Road) to the end of state maintenance. Intermittent lane closures will occur Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with traffic controlled by flagging.

Route 657 (Old Mill Road) – Paving of gravel road from 0.3 mile to 2.1 miles south of Route 645 (Kirtley Trail). Intermittent lane closures will occur Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with traffic controlled by flagging.

(NEW) Route 748 (Bruces Lane) – Paving of gravel road from Route 522 (Sperryville Pike) south to the end of state maintenance. Intermittent lane closures will occur Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with traffic controlled by flagging.

Route 775 (Ferguson Lane) – Paving of gravel road from Route 621 (Jeffersonton Road) to the end of state maintenance.Intermittent lane closures will occur Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with traffic controlled by flagging.

 

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 601, 603, 621, 628, 629, 632, 633, 635, 638, 646, 657, 685, 713, 714, 721 – Mowing.
  • Routes 615, 661, 662, 671, 672, 673, 680, 688, 739 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Routes 522, 689 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 522, 626 – Shoulder repair and ditching.
  • Routes 628, 680 – Pipe replacement.

 

Fauquier County

Interstate 66 – Bridge repairs near mile markers 20 and 22 with alternating eastbound lanes closed Sunday through Thursday from 7 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Bridge repairs near mile marker 36 with alternating lane closures in both directions Sunday through Thursday from 7 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Expect brief delays.

(NEW) Route 15/29 (Lee Highway) – Line painting. Nightly from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., a mobile work zone will reduce northbound traffic to one lane from Route 605 (Airlie Road) to the Prince William County line.

(NEW) Route 17 (Marsh Road) – Tree trimming. From 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, southbound right lane closed from Route 805 (Bealeton Road) to Route 806 (Elk Run Road). Be alert for workers and equipment near the travel lanes.

(NEW) Route 17 (Winchester Road) – Line painting. Nightly from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., a mobile work zone will reduce northbound traffic to one lane from Route 777 (Old Zion Road) to the Interstate 66 interchange.

Route 211 (Lee Highway) – Mowing from the Culpeper County line to the town of Warrenton. Mobile lane closures will occur Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Motorists should obey traffic controls and use caution through the work zone.

Route 688 (Leeds Manor Road) – Replacing bridge over Thumb Run. Intermittent shoulder closures will occur Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Anticipated completion July 2016.

Route 752 (Sillamon Road) – Replacement of bridge over Deep Run. Road closed at the bridge, approximately one mile east of Route 617 (Blackwells Mill Road) near Goldvein. Motorists should use posted detour via Route 617. Anticipated completion Oct. 1.

(NEW) Route 1504 (Admiral Nelson Drive), Buckland Oaks subdivision, Edgewood East subdivision – Asphalt crack sealing. Beginning Wednesday, flagging will occur. Motorists should watch for workers and equipment on the roadway.

 

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 605, 626, 672, 702, 709, 713 – Mowing.
  • Routes 17, 616 – Debris removal.
  • Routes 695, 726, 761, 764, 1124, 1125 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 705, 711, 726 – Machining of gravel roads.

 

 

Fluvanna County

Route 6 (East River Road) – Replacement of the Rivanna River bridge. Temporary lane closures may occur, with traffic controlled by flaggers. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls as they approach the area. Anticipated completion Nov. 20.

(NEW) Route 53 (Thomas Jefferson Parkway) – Pipe rehabilitation work. Intermittent lane closures with flagging will occur near the intersection of Route 636 (Nahor Manor Road) daily, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 15, 53 – Trimming.
  • Routes 611, 622, 629, 630, 631, 637, 645, 669, 773 – Mowing.

 

 

Greene County

Route 642 (Simms Road) – Paving of gravel road. Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., mobile lane closures with flagging will occur.

 

 

Louisa County

Route 677 (Goodwins Store Road) – Paving of gravel road. Wednesday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., mobile lane closures with flagging will occur.

(UPDATE) Various routes – Paving and line striping at the locations listed below. Tuesday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect minor delays.

  • Route 1005 (Loch Lane Drive) – From Route 33 to the end of state maintenance.
  • Route 1007 (Lyde Avenue) – From Route 1024 to Route 33.
  • Route 1020 (Club Road) – From Route 1022 to Route 33.
  • Route 1023 (Woodger Circle) – From Route 1022 to the end of state maintenance.
  • Route 1024 (Lyde Avenue) – From Route 1007 to the end of state maintenance.

 

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Route 604 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 613, 620, 692, 693, 773 – Mowing.

 

 

Madison County

(NEW) Route 29 (Seminole Trail) – Line painting. Mobile lane closures will occur between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily. Motorists should use caution around slow-moving equipment and only pass where safe and legal.

(UPDATE) Route 231 (N. Blue Ridge Turnpike) – Replacement of bridge over Mulatto Run. Road reduced to one lane with two-way traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals. Weather permitting, blasting will occur on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Anticipated completion Dec. 18.

(NEW) Route 679 (Deer Crossing Lane) – Paving and line striping from Route 685 (Burnt Tree Way) to dead end. Wednesday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect minor delays.

 

 

Orange County

(NEW) Route 1080 (Briar Patch Drive) – Driveway pipe replacement at house number 19411. Flagging will occur from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

(NEW) Various routes – Paving and line striping at the locations listed below. Wednesday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect minor delays.

  • Route 603 (Indiantown Road) – From Route 614 to Route 601.
  • Route 619 (Sunnyside Road) – From Route 624 to Route 660.
  • Route 629 (Lahore Road) – From Route 651 to Route 522.
  • Route 630 (Matthews Mill Road) – From Route 669 to the end of pavement.

 

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 662, 680, 688 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Route 660 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 15, 20, 522, 650, 669, 671 – Mowing.
  • Route 1080 – Shoulder repair and ditching.

 

 

Rappahannock County

(NEW) Route 211 (Lee Highway) – Application of latex sealant. Tuesday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., traffic will be reduced to one lane from 0.6 mile east of Route 1003 (Waterpenny Lane) to 0.1 mile east of Route 724. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

Route 211 (Lee Highway) – Mowing from the Page County line to the Culpeper County line. Mobile lane closures will occur Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Motorists should obey traffic controls and use caution through the work zone.

(UPDATE) Route 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway) – Application of latex sealant. Tuesday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., traffic will be reduced to one lane from 0.8 mile south of Route 655 (Short Road) to 0.4 mile north of Route 231 (FT Valley Road). Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

Route 637 (Jericho Road) – Replacement of bridge over Big Indian Run. Intermittent lane closures will Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with traffic controlled by flagging. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls as they approach the area. Anticipated completion May 2016.

  • Routes 211, 522, 608, 618, 626, 637, 640, 647 – Shoulder repairs and ditching.
  • Routes 610, 630, 632, 635, 638, 647, 657, 660, 662, 664, 673 – Mowing.
