road-work-headerThe following highway work is scheduled, weather permitting, in the Culpeper District during the upcoming week. Traffic movements may be restricted and speed limits reduced in work zones. (NEW) or (UPDATE) indicate revisions since last week’s report.

(UPDATE) Route 29/250 Bypass interchange – Contractor is installing storm drain structures; installing a new traffic signal at Angus Road; building sidewalks and installing guardrail in the Route 29 median; and widening the ramp. Motorists should be alert for equipment entering and exiting the highway.

–        On Monday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., the southbound Route 29 outside lane will be closed from Hydraulic Road to the Route 250 Bypass. The ramp to westbound Route 250 Bypass will be closed with a detour in place for motorists. Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control.

–        Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., the ramp from the westbound Route 250 Bypass to Barracks Road will be narrowed with a left shoulder closure. The ramp from Barracks Road to the eastbound Route 250 Bypass will also be narrowed with a right shoulder closure.

–        Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the westbound Route 250 Bypass outside lane will be closed from Hydraulic Road to Barracks road.

–        Tuesday through Friday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., the southbound Route 29 outside lane will be closed from Angus Road to the Route 250 Bypass. The ramp to westbound Route 250 Bypass will be closed with a detour in place for motorists.

 

(UPDATE) Rio Road grade-separated intersection – Utility relocation work continues in the vicinity of the Rio Road intersection. The following work is scheduled Sunday through Friday nights from 8:30 p.m. to 7 a.m.:

–        Alternating triple lane closures will be in place on northbound Route 29 from Fashion Square Drive to Albemarle Square. Motorists wishing to turn left from Route 29 to Rio Road should use Berkmar Drive as the detour route.

–        Alternating triple lane closures will be in place on southbound Route 29 from Albemarle Square to Fashion Square Drive. Motorists wishing to turn left from Route 29 to Rio Road should use Branchlands Blvd. and Hillsdale Drive as the detour route.

–        Both directions of Rio Road will be closed with a single lane open for local business traffic.

 

Route 29 widening – Median clearing from Polo Grounds Road to Towncenter Drive. The following work on Route 29 is scheduled Sunday through Friday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.:

–        Single alternating lane closures will occur on northbound and southbound Route 29 from Towncenter Drive to Rio Mills Road as necessary for barrier installation. Expect delays.

 

 

Albemarle County

Interstate 64 – Installation of infrastructure and devices for active traffic management system on Afton Mountain. Left shoulder closed in both directions between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday from mile marker 107 (Crozet exit) to mile marker 94 in Augusta County. Motorists should keep right and use caution approaching the work zone. Anticipated completion Dec. 9.

(UPDATE) Route 20 (Stony Point Road) – Asphalt crack-sealing from Orange County line to Route 649 (Proffit Road). Mobile work zone moving south between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Expect delays.

Route 29 (Monacan Trail Road) – Paving and line painting from just north of Route 692 (Plank Road) to Route 760 (Red Hill School Road). Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., traffic will be reduced to one lane. Obey traffic controls.

Route 250 (Richmond Road) – Line painting from 0.3 mile east of the Interstate 64 interchange at Shadwell to the Fluvanna County line. Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., mobile lane closures will reduce traffic to one lane. Obey traffic controls.

Route 677 (Broomley Road) – Replacement of bridge over Buckingham-Branch Railroad. Road closed with southbound traffic detoured right onto Route 677 (Old Ballard Road) to Route 676/678 (Owensville Road) to Route 250 (Ivy Road). Northbound motorists will reverse the detour. Access to all residences and businesses will be maintained during the closure.

(NEW) Route 708 (Taylors Gap Road) – Drainage pipe replacement. On Thursday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., the road will be closed to through traffic approximately 0.7 mile south of Route 637 (Dick Woods Road). Motorists should follow posted detour signs during the complete closure. On Friday, alternating lane closures will occur at the same time and location. Expect delays.

Route 784 (Doctors Crossing) – Paving of gravel road. Monday through Thursday between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., mobile lane closures with flagging will occur.

(UPDATE) Route 854 (Carrsbrook Drive) – Drainage pipe rehabilitation. The road will be closed between Route 1432 (North Indian Spring Road) and Route 1419 (Marlboro Court), daily. East of the closure, motorists should follow the posted detour via Route 652 (Westmoreland Road/Old Brook Road). West of the closure, Route 854 will remain accessible from Route 29. Anticipated completion Dec. 11.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 231, 250, 677 – Shoulder repair and ditching.
  • Routes 240, 611, 681, 713, 774, 788 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 617, 627, 633, 670, 679, 699, 701, 711, 712, 717, 718, 721, 722, 723, 805, 856 – Dust control on gravel roads.
  • Routes 627, 637, 640, 668, 671, 681, 684, 722, 725 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Route 787 – Pavement patching.
  • Route 708 – Pipe replacement.

 

 

Culpeper County

(UPDATE) Route 3 (Germanna Highway) – Roadway widening to four lanes. Clearing, excavation and utility relocation will occur along the route from Stevensburg to Lignum. Motorists should be alert for workers near the travel lanes and for trucks entering and exiting the highway.

  • On Tuesday and Wednesday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., alternating single lane closures will occur from Route 739 (Clay Hill Road) to Sandy Springs Lane. Flagging will occur.
  • On or about Thursday, based on weather and progress of work, both directions of traffic will be switched to begin using the newly paved lanes between Lignum and Route 669 (Carrico Mills Road).
  • Speed limit reduced to 45 mph in the work zone.

Route 15/29 (James Madison Highway) – Installing raised pavement markers. Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., a mobile work zone will reduce southbound traffic to one lane from Route 663 (Alanthus Road) to Route 676 (Beverly Ford Road/Berry Hill Road).

Route 29 (James Madison Highway) – Construction of new interchange at Route 666 (Braggs Corner Road). Intermittent lane closures will occur Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Speed limit reduced to 35 mph on Route 666 through the work zone. Motorists should be alert and use caution approaching the intersection. Anticipated completion August 2017.

(NEW) Route 15/29 Business (Brandy Road) – Removal of center island in the median at the Route 666 (Braggs Corner Road) intersection. Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the Route 29 Business outside lanes will be closed at the intersection. Motorists should use caution approaching the work zone and be alert for workers and equipment near the travel lanes.

Route 211 (Lee Highway) – Installing raised pavement markers. Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., a mobile work zone will reduce eastbound traffic to one lane from Route 621 (Colvin Road) to the Fauquier County line. Obey traffic controls.

(UPDATE) Route 229 (Rixeyville Road) – Grading of the shoulders at the intersection of Route 229 and Route 211 (Lee Highway). Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the Route 229 right-turn lane and shoulder will be closed and the Route 211 shoulder will be closed. Obey traffic controls and use caution through the work zone.

Route 633 (Norman Road) – Paving and line striping from Route 719 (Mountain Run Lake Road) to Route 522 (Sperryville Pike). Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck. Obey traffic controls and use caution through the work zone.

Route 633 (Hudson Mill Road) – Paving and line striping from Route 644 (Reva Road) to Route 643 (North Merrimac Road). Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck. Obey traffic controls and use caution through the work zone.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 229, 299, 643, 646 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 601, 611, 620, 621, 626, 623, 632, 635, 638, 639, 649, 685, 729, 730, 802 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 613, 626, 628, 665, 752 – Shoulder repair and ditching.
  • Routes 618, 626, 628, 635, 640, 647, 655, 730 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Routes 618, 628, 730 – Placing shoulder stone.

 

Fauquier County

Interstate 66 – Bridge repairs on I-66 from mile marker 20 to mile marker 35 in both directions. Sunday through Thursday between 7 p.m. and 4:30 a.m., alternating eastbound and westbound lane closures will occur. Expect brief delays.

Route 15/29 (Lee Highway) – Installing raised pavement markers. Monday through Friday from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., a mobile work zone will reduce northbound traffic to one lane from Route 605 (Airlie Road) to the Prince William County line.

(NEW) Route 17 (James Madison Highway/Marsh Road) – Mowing from the Interstate 66 interchange to the Stafford County line. Mobile lane closures will occur Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Motorists should obey traffic controls and use caution through the work zone.

Route 17 (Winchester Road) – Installing raised pavement markers. Monday through Friday from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., a mobile work zone will reduce northbound traffic to one lane from Route 777 (Old Zion Road) to the Interstate 66 interchange.

Route 17 (Winchester Road) – Mowing south along the corridor. Mobile lane closures will occur Monday through Friday during daytime hours. Motorists should obey traffic controls and use caution through the work zone.

(NEW) Route 17 spur – Tree trimming. The right shoulders will be closed from Route 17 (James Madison Highway) to Route 15/29 (Lee Highway) on Tuesday and Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Motorists should be alert for workers and equipment near the travel lanes.

(NEW) Route 28 (Catlett Road) – Tree trimming. Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., alternating single lane closures will occur from Route 643 (Meetze Road) to the Prince William County line. Traffic will be controlled by flagging. Expect delays.

Route 245 (Old Tavern Road) – Paving and line striping from Route 17 (Winchester Road) to approximately 0.4 mile north of Route 750 (Harrison Road). Monday through Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck. Expect delays.

Primary routes – Line painting. Mobile lane closures will occur on primary and secondary routes between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily. Motorists should use caution around slow-moving equipment and only pass where safe and legal.

Route 688 (Leeds Manor Road) – Replacing bridge over Thumb Run. Intermittent shoulder and lane closures will occur Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Anticipated completion July 2016.

(NEW) Route 691 (Carters Run Road) – Drainage pipe replacement. On Wednesday and Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., the road will be closed to through traffic, daily. Motorists should seek an alternate route.

  • Routes 17, 610, 637, 1306 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 55 east, 839, 245 – Mowing.
  • Routes 603, 604, 609, 610, 611, 612, 616, 623, 637, 639, 650, 651, 658, 660, 661, 662, 663, 667, 669, 683, 710 south, 712, 745, 786, 805, 806, 837, 1306 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 605, 691, 694 – Pipe repair/replacement.
  • Routes 628, 629, 673, 674, 684, 692, 737, 739, 780, 800 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Routes 674, 680, 694, 732, 739 – Shoulder repair and ditching.

 

 

Fluvanna County

Route 6 (East River Road) – Replacement of the Rivanna River bridge. Temporary lane closures may occur, with traffic controlled by flaggers. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls as they approach the area. Anticipated completion summer 2016.

Primary routes – Line painting. Mobile lane closures will occur on primary routes between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily. Motorists should use caution around slow-moving equipment and only pass where safe and legal.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 624, 640, 645, 646, 650, 654, 659, 675 – Mowing.

 

 

Greene County

Route 642 (Simms Road) – Paving of gravel road. On Thursday and Friday between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., mobile lane closures with flagging will occur. Obey traffic controls.

 

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Route 632 – Pipe replacement.
  • Route 642 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Route 810 – Pavement patching.

 

 

Louisa County

Route 33 (Louisa Road) – Line painting from Route 22 (Louisa Road) to Route 1002 (South Street). Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., a mobile work zone will reduce traffic to one lane. Obey traffic controls.

Route 693 (Kents Mill Road) – Drainage pipe rehabilitation. Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., intermittent lane closures will occur approximately 2 miles north of Route 22 (Louisa Road). Traffic will be controlled by flagging.

Route 699 (Indian Creek Road) – Paving of gravel road. Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., mobile lane closures with flagging will occur. Obey traffic controls.

Primary routes – Line painting. Mobile lane closures will occur on primary routes between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily. Motorists should use caution around slow-moving equipment and only pass where safe and legal.

  • Routes 208, 250 – Mowing.

 

 

Madison County

Route 29 (Seminole Trail) – Installing raised pavement markers. Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., mobile lane closures will reduce southbound traffic to one lane at the locations listed below.

  • From Route 662 (Shelby Road) to 1 mile south of Route 230 (Wolftown-Hood Road).
  • From 0.7 mile north of Route 678 (Tibbs Shop Road) to 0.3 mile south of Route 612 (James City Road).
  • From Route 607 (Ridgeview Road) to Route 634 (Washington Street/Oak Park Road).

Route 230 (Wolftown-Hood Road) – Installing raised pavement markers. Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., traffic will be reduced to one lane at the locations listed below.

  • From Route 662 (Shelby Road) to 1 mile south of Route 657 (Thrift Road).
  • From Route 692 (Riverview Lane) to the Greene County line.

Route 231 (N. Blue Ridge Turnpike) – Replacement of bridge over Mulatto Run. Road reduced to one lane with two-way traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals. Anticipated completion Dec. 18.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 607, 613, 662, 704 – Mowing.
  • Route 231– Shoulder repair and ditching.

 

 

Orange County

Route 20 (Constitution Highway) – Mowing along the corridor. Mobile lane closures will occur on Monday and Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

(NEW) Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) – Mowing along the corridor. Mobile lane closures will occur on Wednesday and Thursday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

Route 20 (Constitution Highway) – Line striping and placing stone along shoulders from Route 741 (Lafayette Drive) to approximately 0.1 mile south of Route 729 (Tannery Road). The work will require mobile lane closures Monday through Saturday between 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. and between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Obey traffic controls.

 

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 3, 20, 522 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 20, 33 – Mowing.
  • Routes 20, 33, 612, 700, 1029 – Shoulder repair and ditching.
  • Routes 20, 602, 603, 605, 606, 608, 617, 620, 623, 652, 661, 673, 675, 676, 688, 689, 698, 709, 729 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Routes 603, 624 – Pavement patching.

 

 

Rappahannock County

Route 211 (Lee Highway) – Guardrail installation from just west of Route 1003 (Sons Road) to approximately 0.3 mile west of Route 612 (Old Hollow Road). Westbound traffic reduced to one lane Wednesday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Obey traffic controls.

Route 211 (Lee Highway) – Paving and line striping from Route 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway) to approximately 0.6 mile west of Route 678 (Jordans Road). Eastbound traffic reduced to one lane Monday through Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

Route 637 (Jericho Road) – Replacement of bridge over Big Indian Run. Intermittent lane closures will occur Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with traffic controlled by flagging. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls as they approach the area. Anticipated completion May 2016.

  • Route 211 west – Shoulder repair and ditching.
  • Routes 622, 623, 627 – Pavement patching.
