road-work-headerThe following highway work is scheduled, weather permitting, in the Culpeper District during the upcoming week. Traffic movements may be restricted and speed limits reduced in work zones. (NEW) or (UPDATE) indicate revisions since last week’s report.

(UPDATE) Route 29/250 Bypass interchange – Contractor is performing excavation work near the ramp, grading in the median and constructing a retaining wall at the ramp. Motorists should be alert for equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Sunday, Aug. 30 through Thursday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., the westbound Route 250 Bypass outside lane will be closed from Hydraulic Road to Barracks Road.
  • Monday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., the Route 29 southbound right lane will be closed from Route 250 to Earhart Drive.
  • Thursday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., the southbound Route 29 right lane and the ramp to Route 250 Bypass west will be closed.
  • Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to noon, the westbound Route 250 Bypass outside lane will be closed from Hydraulic Road to Barracks Road.
  • Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to noon, intermittent left-turn lane and crossover closures will occur on Route 29 from Morton Drive to Hydraulic Road.
  • Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Route 29 southbound right shoulder will be closed at Route 250.
  • Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Route 29 northbound right shoulder will be closed at Route 250.

(UPDATE) Rio Road grade-separated intersection – Temporary crossovers and signals will be installed and utility relocation work continues in the vicinity of the Rio Road intersection.

  • Monday through Thursday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., left lane closed on southbound Route 29 from Woodbrook Drive to Twentyninth Place Court.
  • Monday through Thursday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., alternating lanes closed on Route 29 northbound from Fashion Square Drive to the entrance to Albemarle Square. Motorists should also be aware for traffic shifts on Rio Road westbound.

(UPDATE) Route 29 widening – Survey work and installation of concrete barriers.

  • Sunday, Aug. 30 through Thursday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., the Route 29 southbound left lane will be closed from Towncenter Drive to Polo Grounds Road.
  • Monday through Thursday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., the Route 29 northbound left lane will be closed from Polo Grounds Road to North Hollymead Drive.

(UPDATE) Adaptive traffic signal control system – Rebuilding signal at Berkmar Drive and Woodbrook Drive.

  • On Monday and Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., the right-turn lane will be closed on eastbound Woodbrook Drive.
  • On Wednesday and Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., the right-turn lane will be closed on southbound Berkmar Drive.

 

Albemarle County

Interstate 64 – Deck resurfacing of I-64 bridge over Route 637 (Dick Woods Road). Alternating eastbound lane closures will occur Monday through Friday between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Interstate 64 – Mobile trimming and roadside maintenance operations will require eastbound and westbound shoulder closures between mile markers 124 and 147.5, and between mile markers 99 and 124.

Interstate 64 – Installation of infrastructure and devices for active traffic management system on Afton Mountain. Left shoulder closed in both directions between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday from mile marker 107 (Crozet exit) to mile marker 94 in Augusta County. Motorists should keep right and use caution approaching the work zone. Anticipated completion Nov. 5.

(UPDATE) Interstate 64 – Painting bridges over Route 250 (Richmond Road) in Shadwell (exit 124). Shoulders will be closed at the bridge on Monday. Alternating lanes closed Monday and Tuesday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Bridge height clearance reduced to 14 feet 6 inches. Motorists should use caution through the work zone.

(UPDATE) Primary routes – Line painting. Mobile lane closures will occur on primary routes between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily. Motorists should use caution around slow-moving equipment and only pass where safe and legal.

(UPDATE) Route 20 (Stony Point Road) – Installation of pavement markers. Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to noon, traffic reduced to one lane from Route 250 (Richmond Road) to Route 621 (Wolf Trap Road). Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

Route 53 (Thomas Jefferson Parkway) – Constructing right-turn lane at Route 729 (Milton Road). Monday through Friday from10 a.m. to 3 p.m., westbound lane closed with traffic controlled by flagging. Expect delays. Anticipated completion Nov. 16.

Route 616 (Black Cat Road) – Replacement of bridge over Buckingham Branch Railroad. Road closed at the bridge with traffic detoured via Route 250 (Richmond Road). Anticipated completion Oct. 15.

(NEW) Route 637 (Dick Woods Road) – Drainage pipe rehabilitation. Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday from 7 a.m. to noon, intermittent lane closures will occur approximately 0.9 mile west of Route 708 (Taylors Gap Road), with traffic controlled by flagging. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

Route 677 (Broomley Road) – Replacement of bridge over Buckingham-Branch Railroad. Road closed at the bridge with southbound traffic detoured right onto Route 677 (Old Ballard Road), which will be narrowed to one lane near the intersection,then left onto Route 676/678 (Owensville Road) and out to Route 250 (Ivy Road). Northbound motorists will reverse the detour. Access to all residences and businesses will be maintained during the closure. Anticipated completion Nov. 16.

(NEW) Route 795 (James Monroe Parkway) – Paving from Route 53 (Thomas Jefferson Parkway) to Route 734 (Bishop Hill Road). Monday and Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flaggers. Obey traffic controls.

 

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 20, 29, 627, 630, 631, 636, 641, 649, 672, 679, 729, 737, 795 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 22, 231, 635 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 601, 610, 612, 621, 620, 627, 676, 677, 727, 728, 729, 746, 769, 795, 807, 1422, 1445, 1493 – Mowing.
  • Route 766 – Machining of gravel roads.

 

Culpeper County

Route 3 (Germanna Highway) – Roadway widening to four lanes. Grading and clearing operations from Route 788 (Lignum Road) to just west of Route 739 (Clay Hills Road). Speed limit reduced to 45 mph in the work zone between Route 788 and just west of Route 669 (Carrico Mills Road). Motorists should be alert for workers near the travel lanes and trucks entering and exiting the highway.

(NEW) Route 15/29 (James Madison Highway) – Pavement patching. Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to noon, southbound traffic will be reduced to one lane from about 0.3 mile north of Route 663 (Alanthus Road) to Route 676 (Beverly Ford Road/Berry Hill Road). Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

(UPDATE) Route 29 (James Madison Highway) – Painting Route 3 (Germanna Highway) bridge over Route 29. In the vicinity of the bridge, alternating northbound lanes will be closed from 9 a.m. to 6 a.m. and alternating southbound lanes closed from 6 p.m. to 3 a.m. Wednesday through Friday. Shoulder closures will occur as needed on both routes at the bridge. Bridge height clearance reduced to 14 feet 6 inches. Motorists should use caution through the work zone.

(UPDATE) Route 29 (James Madison Highway) – Construction of new interchange at Route 666 (Braggs Corner Road). Intermittent lane closures will occur Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Speed limit reduced to 35 mph on Route 666 in the work zone. Motorists should be alert and use caution through the work zone. Anticipated completion August 2017.

(UPDATE) Route 748 (Bruces Lane) – Installation of drain pipe under the roadway. Road closed from Route 522 (Sperryville Pike) to the end of state maintenance between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday. Motorists should use Route 612 (Wayland Road) and Westover Street as an alternate route.

(UPDATE) Route 775 (Ferguson Lane) – Installation of drain pipes from Route 621 (Jeffersonton Road) to the end of state maintenance. Intermittent lane closures will occur Wednesday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., with traffic controlled by flagging. Obey traffic controls.

  • Routes 229, 522, 617, 620, 647, 652, 656, 658, 661, 662, 681, 684, 689, 723, 736 – Mowing.
  • Routes 621, 624, 632, 633, 634, 636, 679 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 624, 626, 693 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Route 788 – Shoulder repair and ditching.

 

Fauquier County

(NEW) Interstate 66 – Bridge repairs near mile marker 22. Alternating westbound lanes closed at the following locations Monday through Thursday from 7 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Expect brief delays.

(NEW) Route 15/29 (Lee Highway) – Lane striping northbound lanes from approximately 0.1 mile north of Route 17 (Marsh Road) to just north of Route 880 (Lord Fairfax Road). Traffic will be reduced to one lane from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Monday. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

(UPDATE) Route 17 (Winchester Road) – Paving of the roadway. Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to noon, northbound traffic will be reduced to one lane from Route 777 (Old Zion Road) to just south of the bridge over Interstate 66. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

(UPDATE) Route 29 (Lee Highway) – Paving of the roadway. Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to noon, southbound traffic will be reduced to one lane from Route 605 (Airlie Road/Dumfries Road) to the Prince William County line. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

(NEW) Route 681 (Cliff Mills Road) – Drainage pipe replacement. Road closed from 8 p.m. on Tuesday to 5 a.m. on Wednesday. Route 732 (John Barton Payne Road) and Route 691 (Wilson Road) are the detour routes.

(UPDATE) Route 688 (Leeds Manor Road) – Replacing bridge over Thumb Run. Intermittent shoulder closures will occur for installation of construction signs from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 7 a.m. to noon on Friday. Anticipated completion July 2016.

(UPDATE) Route 742 (Wheatley School Road) – Paving of gravel road. Single lane closures with flagging will occur from Route 688 (Leeds Manor Road) to the end of state maintenance, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Obey traffic controls.

Route 752 (Sillamon Road) – Replacement of bridge over Deep Run. Road closed at the bridge, approximately one mile east of Route 617 (Blackwells Mill Road) near Goldvein. Motorists should use posted detour via Route 617. Anticipated completion Oct. 1.

(NEW) Route F-185 (Grove Lane) – Drainage pipe replacement. Road closed between Route 721 (Free State Road) and Route 732 (Ramey Road) near Marshall on Monday and Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day. Traffic should follow the posted detour route.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 610, 643, 674, 681, 1501 – Pipe replacement.
  • Routes 616, 643, 670, 674 – Mowing.
  • Routes 640, 681, 732, 737 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 667, 732, 790 – Shoulder repair and ditching.
  • Routes 681, 688 – Machining of gravel roads.

 

Fluvanna County

Route 6 (East River Road) – Replacement of the Rivanna River bridge. Temporary lane closures may occur, with traffic controlled by flaggers. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls as they approach the area. Anticipated completion Nov. 20.

(NEW) Various routes – Roadway resurfacing at the locations listed below. Traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 7:30 a.m. to noon on Friday. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect minor delays.

  • Route 629 (Deep Creek Road) – From Route 631 to Route 626.
  • Route 631 (Hunters Lodge Road) – From Route 613 to Route 15.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 53, 600, 608, 618, 619, 629, 631, 632, 634, 642, 654, 655, 656, 660, 676, 692, 759, 1030, 1031 – Mowing.

 

Greene County

Route 629 (Welsh Run Road) – Replacement of bridge over Welsh Run. Road closed at the bridge. Through traffic will use the following detour: Route 629 to Route 743 (Advance Mills Road) to Route 617 (Dunnes Shop Road) to Route 633 (Amicus Road) and back to Route 629. Anticipated completion Sept. 11.

 

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Route 33 – Shoulder repair and ditching.
  • Route 605 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 617, 623, 633, 743, 810 – Mowing.
  • Route 629 – Pipe install/repair.

 

Louisa County

(NEW) Route 669 (Ellisville Drive) – Drainage pipe replacement. The road will be closed between Route 651 (Cales Drive) and Route 613 (Goldmine Road) overnight Tuesday through 7 a.m. on Wednesday. Northbound traffic will be detoured west on Route 613, then right on Route 692 (Hickory Creek Road), and then right on Route 620 (Vawter Corner Road), which carries traffic back to Route 669.

Route 677 (Goodwins Store Road) – Paving of gravel road. Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., single lane closures with flagging will occur along Route 677. Obey traffic controls.

(NEW) Various routes – Roadway resurfacing at the locations listed below. Traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect minor delays.

  • Route 601 (Bumpass Road) – From Route 701 to Route 701.
  • Route 602 (Copper Line Road) – From Route 661 to Route 601.
  • Route 606 (Waltons Store Road) – From Route 640 to the Goochland County line.
  • Route 629 (Cartersville Road) – From Route 522 to the Goochland County line.
  • Route 631 (Windyknight Road) – From Route 33 to the Hanover County line.
  • Route 635 (West Chapel Drive) – From Route 610 to Route 661.
  • Route 673 (Lewis Hill Lane) – From Route 654 to the end of state maintenance.
  • Route 701 (Belle Meade Road) – From Route 655 to Route 618.
  • Route 715 (Bumpass Road) – From Route 601 to the Hanover County line.
  • Route 718 (Proffits Road) – From Route 606 to the Goochland County line.
  • Route 739 (Plum Tree Road) – From Route 652 to the end of state maintenance
  • Route 1028 (Admiral Drive) – From Route 701 to Route 1029.
  • Route 1029 (Commodore Drive) – From Route 1028 to the end of state maintenance.
  • Route 1281 (Sunrise Court) – From Route 1280 to the end of state maintenance.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 613, 623, 624, 625, 628 – Mowing.

 

Madison County

Route 231 (N. Blue Ridge Turnpike) – Replacement of bridge over Mulatto Run. Road reduced to one lane with two-way traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals. Anticipated completion Dec. 18.

(NEW) Route 29 (James Monroe Highway) – Pavement patching. Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to noon, southbound traffic will be reduced to one lane from 0.7 mile north of Route 678 (Tibbs Shop Road) to 0.3 mile south of Route 612 (James City Road). Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

  • Routes 618, 630, 631, 643, 644, 645 – Mowing.

 

Orange County

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 20, 624, 692 – Shoulder repair and ditching.
  • Routes 639, 646, 649 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 1050, 1051, 1052, 1053 – Mowing.
  • Routes 2014, 2015, 2016 – Surface treatment.

 

Rappahannock County

Route 211 (Lee Highway) – Mowing in Rappahannock, Culpeper and Fauquier counties from Route 522 (Sperryville Pike) to the town of Warrenton. Mobile lane closures will occur Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Motorists should obey traffic controls and use caution through the work zone.

(NEW) Route 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway) – Pavement patching. Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to noon, southbound traffic will be reduced to one lane from about 0.8 mile south of Route 655 (Short Road) to about 0.4 mile north or Route 231 (FT Valley Road). Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

(UPDATE) Route 637 (Jericho Road) – Replacement of bridge over Big Indian Run. Intermittent lane closures will occur Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday from 7 a.m. to noon, with traffic controlled by flagging. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls as they approach the area. Anticipated completion May 2016.
