Culpeper VDOT District Traffic Alert: July 13-17

road-work-headerThe following highway work is scheduled, weather permitting, in the Culpeper District during the upcoming week. Traffic movements may be restricted and speed limits reduced in work zones. (NEW) or (UPDATE) indicate revisions since last week’s report.

(UPDATE) Route 29/250 Bypass interchange – Contractor is performing excavation work near the ramp and grading in the median.

  • Saturday, July 11 through Friday, July 17 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., left-turn lane and crossover closures will occur between Earhart Street and Hydraulic Road for median work.
  • Sunday July 12 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Route 29 southbound inside lane will be closed at the Route 250 Bypass for asphalt placement.
  • Tuesday through Friday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., southbound Route 29 outside lane and ramp to westbound Route 250 Bypass closed for storm drain installation.

(UPDATE) Route 29 widening – Contractor is digging test holes to locate underground utilities on Route 29 between Polo Grounds Road and Ashwood Boulevard.

  • From 9 p.m. Monday to 6 a.m. Tuesday both through lanes and the right turn lane will be closed just north of Hollymead Drive.
  • On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. the southbound right lane will be closed just south of Towncenter Drive.
  • On Friday and Sunday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. the southbound right lane will be closed just south of North Hollymead Drive.

(UPDATE) Rio Road grade-separated intersection – Utility relocation work will occur in the vicinity of the Rio Road intersection.

  • On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. alternating lane closures will occur on Route 29 in both directions near the entrance to Albemarle Square Shopping Center.
  • On Wednesday and Thursday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. the left-turn lanes and left through lanes on Rio Road will be closed in both directions.
  • On Friday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. the two outside lanes on Route 29 southbound will be closed at Rio Road.
  • Motorists should be alert for work along the Route 29 southbound shoulder and in the southbound right lane between9 p.m. and 6 a.m. near the Goodwill store entrance.
  • Motorists should be alert for median work that may require left lane closures on Route 29 in both directions between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. near Twentyninth Place Court and Myers Drive.

 

Albemarle County

Interstate 64 – Deck resurfacing of I-64 bridge over Route 637 (Dick Woods Road). Alternating eastbound lane closures will occur Tuesday through Thursday between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.

(UPDATE) Interstate 64 – Installation of communications conduit in median. Left shoulder closed in both directions between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday from mile marker 107 (Crozet exit) to mile marker 94 in Augusta County. Motorists should keep right and use caution approaching the work zone. Anticipated completion Nov. 5.

(NEW) Route 601 (Free Union Road) – Drainage pipe replacement under roadway. One lane closed just south of Route 665 (Buck Mountain Road) on Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with traffic controlled by flagging. Motorists should obey traffic controls and use caution approaching the work zone.

Route 616 (Black Cat Road) – Replacement of bridge over Buckingham Branch Railroad. Road closed at the bridge with traffic detoured via Route 250 (Richmond Road). Anticipated completion Oct. 15.

(NEW) Route 625 (Hatton Ferry Road) – Surface treatment from Route 726 (James River Road) to the end of state maintenance. Traffic reduced to one lane with flagging from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Obey traffic controls.

Route 637 (Dick Woods Road) – Replacement of bridge over Ivy Creek. Bridge is open to traffic. Intermittent lane closures may occur as final work items are completed. Motorists should be alert for workers and equipment near the travel lanes.

Route 677 (Broomley Road) – Replacement of bridge over Buckingham-Branch Railroad. Road closed at the bridge with southbound traffic detoured right onto Route 677 (Old Ballard Road), which will be narrowed to one lane near the intersection,then left onto Route 676/678 (Owensville Road) and out to Route 250 (Ivy Road). Northbound motorists will reverse the detour. Access to all residences and businesses will be maintained during the closure. Anticipated completion Nov. 16.

Route 691 (Jarmans Gap Road) – Surface treatment from Route 611 (Jarmans Gap Road) to Route 684 (Lanetown Road). Traffic reduced to one lane with flagging from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Obey traffic controls.

(NEW) Route 708 (Taylors Gap Road) – Drainage pipe replacement. Road closed from Route 1010 (Stockton Road) and Route 1191 (Hickory Road) between 8 a.m. Wednesday and 3 p.m. Thursday Motorists should follow posted detour signs.

 

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 6, 22, 231, 618, 627, 712 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 600, 601, 608, 615, 639, 640, 645, 646, 647, 648, 665, 687, 740 – Mowing.
  • Routes 601, 708, 743 – Pipe installation/repair.
  • Routes 640, 676, 691, 692 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 641, 674, 724, 725, 728, 737 – Machining of gravel roads.

 

Town of Culpeper

(UPDATE) Routes 15/29 Business, 229 – Work complete at roundabout project.

 

Culpeper County

(UPDATE) Route 3 (Germanna Highway) – Preparatory work for roadway widening from Route 788 (Lignum Road) to Route 669 (Carrico Mills Road). Motorists should be alert for workers near the travel lanes and trucks entering and exiting the highway.

(NEW) Route 15 (James Madison Highway) – Preparatory work for paving. Traffic reduced to one lane from Route 648 (Cedar Ridge Road) to approximately 0.1 mile south of Route 657 (General Winder Road), with traffic controlled by flagging.

(UPDATE) Route 29 (James Madison Highway) – Construction of new interchange at Route 666 (Braggs Corner Road). Intermittent lane closures will occur Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Motorists should be alert and use caution through the work zone. Anticipated completion August 2017.

(UPDATE) Route 655 (Somerville Road) – Grading and placing stone from Route 689 (Cedar Run Road) to Route 652 (Mitchell Road). Intermittent lane closures will occur Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., with traffic controlled by flagging.

(NEW) Route 748 (Bruces Lane) – Grading and placing stone from Route 522 (Sperryville Pike) to the end of state maintenance. Intermittent lane closures will occur Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., with traffic controlled by flagging.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 3, 20, 522, 644, 652, 663 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 603, 606, 619, 620, 623, 626, 640, 647, 670, 671, 672, 673, 675, 676, 681, 682, 683, 684, 685, 708, 709, 729, 731, 733, 735 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Routes 616 – Shoulder repair and ditching.
  • Routes 616 – Pipe installation/repair.
  • Routes 625, 652, 663 – Mowing.
  • Route 625, 663, 669, 682, 685 – Pavement patching.

 

Fauquier County

(UPDATE) Interstate 66 – Repairs to Route 723 (Ashville Road) bridge over I-66. Westbound lanes closed overnight Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. During the closure, westbound motorists will be diverted off I-66 at exit 27 to Route F-185 (Grove Lane) and will reenter the interstate using the entrance ramp at mile 23 (Delaplane). Alternating westbound lane closures will occur Monday and Thursday from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. Motorists should be alert for workers and equipment near the travel lanes.

(UPDATE) Route 211 (Lee Highway) – Paving operations from the Culpeper County line to the town of Warrenton. Westbound traffic reduced to one lane Monday through Friday. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

(NEW) Route 602 (Rogues Road) – Extension of right-turn lane at Kettle Run High School. Westbound lane closures may be needed Monday through Friday. Motorists should use caution approaching the work zone and obey all traffic controls.

Route 723 (Ashville Road) – Repairs to bridge over Interstate 66. Road closed at the bridge. Through traffic should follow posted detour signs and use caution in the work zone. Anticipated completion Aug. 1.

  • Routes 17, 55, 601, 627, 635, 647, 650, 688, 724, 735, 781, 807 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 17, 55, 601, 607, 609, 611, 612, 626, 670, 672, 681, 683, 688, 702, 704, 705, 708, 736, 768, 770, 798, 802, 806 – Mowing.
  • Routes 605, 962 – Shoulder repair and ditching.
  • Route 610 – Pipe installation/repair.
  • Routes 643, 660, 672, 674, 691, 737, 761, 764 – Pavement patching.
  • Route 681 – Machining of gravel roads.

 

Fluvanna County

Route 6 (East River Road) – Replacement of the Rivanna River bridge. Temporary lane closures may occur, with traffic controlled by flaggers. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls as they approach the area. Anticipated completion Nov. 20.

Route 6 (West River Road) – Replacement of the Hardware River bridge. Temporary lane closures may occur, with traffic controlled by flaggers. Anticipated completion Aug. 14.

(UPDATE) Route 619 (Ruritan Lake Road) – Line painting from Route 660 (Sclaters Ford Road) to the Albemarle County line. Traffic reduced to one lane with flagging from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Obey traffic controls.

(NEW) Route 682 (Little Mountain Road) – Surface treatment from Route 649 (Central Plains Road) to the end of state maintenance. Traffic reduced to one lane with flagging from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Obey traffic controls.

(UPDATE) Route 684 (Franklin Lane) – Surface treatment from Route 608 (Rising Run Road) to the end of state maintenance. Traffic reduced to one lane with flagging from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Obey traffic controls.

  • Routes 6, 15, 53, 608, 637 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.

  • Routes 230, 612, 641, 810 – Mowing.

Louisa County

(UPDATE) Interstate 64 – Milling and paving the on-ramp and off-ramp at exit 136. Eastbound traffic reduced to one lane at the interchange Sunday, July 12 through Monday, July 13 from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. Motorists should use caution through the work zone.

(UPDATE) Route 15 (James Madison Highway) – Roadway resurfacing from just north of the Sommerfield Business Park entrance to Route 22 (Louisa Road). Traffic reduced to one lane Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

(UPDATE) Route 22 (Davis Highway) – Roadway resurfacing from the Louisa town limits to Route 522 (Mineral Avenue) in the town of Mineral. Traffic reduced to one lane Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

(NEW) Route 22 (Louisa Road) – Drainage pipe rehabilitation. Monday through Friday, intermittent lane closures will occur approximately 0.2 miles east of Route 613 (Oakland Road). Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

(NEW) Route 639 (Mallorys Ford Road) – Paving and line painting work. Traffic reduced to one lane from Route 620 (Vawter Corner Road) to the Orange County line on Thursday between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Flaggers will control traffic.

(NEW) Route 700 (Trimmers Road) – Paving and line painting work. Traffic reduced to one lane from Route 652 (Kentucky Springs Road) to the end of state maintenance on Tuesday through Wednesday between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Flaggers will control traffic.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 613, 639, 794 – Mowing.
  • Routes 618, 658 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Route 658 – Machining of gravel roads.

 

Madison County

(UPDATE) Route 29 (Seminole Trail) – Patching operations at the following locations. Traffic reduced to one lane Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

  • From 0.7 mile north of Route 678 (Tibbs Shop Road) to Route 612 (James City Road).
  • From Route 662 (Shelby Road) to 0.9 mile south of Route 230 (Wolftown-Hood Road).
  • From Route 634 (Oak Park Road) to Route 607 (Lillards Ford Road).

Route 231 (N. Blue Ridge Turnpike) – Replacement of bridge over Mulatto Run. Road reduced to one lane with two-way traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals. Anticipated completion Dec. 18.

  • Routes 616, 680, 688 – Pavement patching.

 

Town of Gordonsville

(UPDATE) Faulconer Street and King Street – Drainage pipe replacement at the intersection. Alternating lane closures will occur Wednesday between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., with traffic controlled by flagging.

 

Orange County

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 605, 608, 698, 716 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Routes 611, 1021 – Pipe installation/repair.
  • Routes 630, 660, 671, 690 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 1130, 1131, 1132 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.

 

Rappahannock County

(NEW) Route 522 (Sperryville Pike) – Roadway patching from 0.8 mile south of Route 655 (Short Road) to 0.4 mile north of Route 231 (F.T. Valley Road). Traffic reduced to one lane Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

(NEW) Route 622 (Aaron Mountain Road) – Preparatory work for paving of gravel roads. Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., the road will be closed from Route 626 (Long Mountain Road) to just east of the intersection. Motorists should use an alternate route.

(UPDATE) Route 637 (Jericho Road) – Replacement of bridge over Big Indian Run. Intermittent lane closures will occur Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., with traffic controlled by flagging. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls as they approach the area. Anticipated completion May 2016.
