Culpeper District Traffic Alerts: Week of Sept. 26-30

road work transportationThe following highway work is scheduled, weather permitting, in the Culpeper District during the upcoming week. Traffic movements may be restricted and speed limits reduced in work zones. (NEW) or (UPDATE) indicate revisions since last week’s report.

Rio Road grade-separated intersection – The intersection is open to traffic. Motorists should follow overhead and ground-mounted signs to guide them through the project area. Monday through Friday the following overnight lane closures will be in effect.

On Route 29 north and south of the Rio Road intersection:

  • Between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., Monday through Friday there will be at least one lane open both northbound and southbound
  • All business entrances will remain open during business hours
  • Turning movements at the Rio Road signal, including left turns and U-turns, may be restricted between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

On Rio Road east and west of Route 29:

  • Between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., the crossover, U-turn and left turn movements from Rio Road onto Route 29 and from Route 29 onto Rio Road may be restricted
  • All business entrances will remain open during business hours

During the overnight closures additional detour signs, cones and other traffic controls will direct motorists through the work zone. The speed limit remains 35 mph at all times. The nighttime work will continue for the next several months.

Both of the temporary median breaks, located at Myers Drive and Berkmar Drive, have been closed. The Berkmar Drive intersection has been restored to its original configuration to provide right-in, right-out access at Route 29 southbound.

Route 29 widening – Construction continues along the roadway shoulders between Route 643 (Polo Grounds Road) and Route 1719 (Towncenter Drive). Travel lanes are narrowed and shoulders are closed within the work zone and the speed limit is reduced to 40 mph. Expect intermittent single lane closures Monday through Friday between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Motorists should remain alert and use caution through the work zone.

Berkmar Drive Extended – Bridge construction beginning Wednesday will require brief, intermittent closures of Rio Mills Road between Route 29 and Millers Cottage Lane while materials are delivered. On Towncenter Drive in the vicinity of the roundabout, motorists should be alert for dump trucks and other equipment entering and exiting the roadway.

(UPDATE) Hillsdale Drive Extended – Obey traffic controls and expect minor delays on Hillsdale Drive, Hydraulic Road, India Road, Zan Road, Greenbrier Drive, Pepsi Place and Seminole Court. For project updates, visit http://hillsdaledrive.org.

 

Albemarle County

Interstate 64 – Installation of infrastructure and devices for active traffic management system on Afton Mountain. Left shoulder closed in both directions between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday from mile marker 107 (Crozet exit) to mile marker 94 in Augusta County. Motorists should keep right and use caution approaching the work zone. Anticipated completion in September.

(NEW) Route 631 (Old Lynchburg Road) – Milling, paving and line painting from Route 706 (Dudley Mountain Road) to Route 1870 (Ambrose Commons Drive). Monday through Friday, traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck. Obey traffic controls.

Route 782 (Stribling Avenue Extended) – Construction company performing electrical duct bank work. Motorists should obey traffic controls. Anticipated completion in October.

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 600, 640, 641, 645, 646, 697, 699, 718, 676, 805, 806 – Mowing.
  • Routes 639, 640, 699, 718, 783 – Maintenance of gravel roads.
  • Routes 641, 666, 676 – Pavement patching.

 

Culpeper County

(UPDATE) Route 3 (Germanna Highway) – Roadway widening to four lanes from Stevensburg to Lignum. On Wednesday, traffic will shift to new westbound lanes. Brief traffic stops of up to 15 minutes are possible from 9 a.m. to late afternoon. Motorists should be alert for new signs and changes to the traffic pattern. Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., stay alert for intermittent lane closures from 0.9 mile west of Route 663 (Stevensburg Road) to Route 739 (Clay Hill Road). Traffic will be controlled by flagging. Speed limit reduced to 45 mph in the work zone.

Route 29 (James Madison Highway) – Construction of new interchange at Route 666 (Braggs Corner Road). Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., intermittent lane closures will occur on Route 29 and Route 666. Speed limit reduced to 35 mph on Route 666 and to 50 mph on Route 29 through the work zone. Anticipated completion August 2017.

Route 29 (James Monroe Highway) – Constructing restricted crossing U-turn intersection at Route 718 (Mountain Run Lake Road). The median crossover is closed at Route 718, restricting all left-turn movements at the intersection. Motorists detoured via Route 1250 (Granite Boulevard). Monday through Friday and on Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., intermittent single lane closures will be in place in both directions between Route 29 Business and Route 1250 (Park Ridge Drive). Motorists should use caution traveling through the work zone and obey traffic controls. Anticipated completion January 2017.

(UPDATE) Route 211 (Lee Highway) – Tree trimming in both directions from Route 229 (Rixeyville Road) in Culpeper County to Warrenton town limits. Monday through Friday during daytime hours, traffic will be reduced to one lane. Obey traffic controls and use caution approaching the work zone.

Route 229 (North Main Street) – Roadway widening to four lanes. Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., occasional lane closures with flagging will occur through the work zone. Stay alert for workers near the travel lanes and for trucks entering and exiting the highway. Anticipated completion August 2017.

Route 647 (Twin Mountains Road) – Paving of gravel road. Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., intermittent lane closures will be in place from Route 655 (Somerville Road) to 2.1 miles south. Obey traffic controls.

Route 784 (Western Outer Loop/Ira Hoffman Lane) – Construction of new roadway. Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., occasional lane closures with flagging will occur on Route 729 (Eggbornsville Road) at Route 784. Obey traffic controls.

  • Routes 15, 229, 522 – Mowing.
  • Routes 621, 625, 640, 644, 666, 707, 802, 1113, 1114 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 629, 645 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 646, 713, 714 – Maintenance of gravel roads.
  • Route 718 – Drainage pipe repair.

 

Fauquier County

Route 15/29 (James Madison Highway) – Paving and line painting on northbound lanes from Culpeper County line to Route 28 (Catlett Road). Traffic reduced to one lane 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and  from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Obey traffic controls and use caution through the work zone.

Route 17 (James Madison Highway) – Milling, paving and line painting on southbound lanes from Route 699 (Merry Oaks Road) to the Route 777 (Old Zion Road) crossover. Traffic reduced to one lane Monday through Wednesday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Obey traffic controls and use caution through the work zone.

(UPDATE) Route 55 (John Marshall Highway) – Painting the westbound bridge just east of Route 600 (Beverleys Mills Road). Right shoulder closures will be in place Sunday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Use caution approaching the work zone and obey traffic controls.

Interstate 66 – Bridge repairs from mile marker 31 to 36. Sunday through Friday from 8 p.m. to 1 p.m., expect occasional westbound lane closures. Motorists should obey traffic controls and use caution traveling through the work zone.

(UPDATE) Route 211 (Lee Highway) – Tree trimming in both directions from Route 229 (Rixeyville Road) in Culpeper County to Warrenton town limits. Monday through Friday during daytime hours, traffic will be reduced to one lane. Obey traffic controls and use caution approaching the work zone.

Route 211 (Lee Highway) – Milling, paving and line painting southbound from Page County line to 0.3 mile east. Mondaythrough Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck. Obey traffic controls.

Route 245 (Old Tavern Road) – Rehabilitating bridge over Broad Run. Occasional lane closures will occur Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Motorists should obey traffic controls and use caution traveling through the work zone.

Various routes – Roadway resurfacing at the locations listed below. Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck. Obey traffic controls.

  • Route 602 (Rogues Road) from Route 670 to Route 605.
  • Route 631 (Royalls Mill Road) from Route 651 to Route 615.
  • Route 640 (Laws Ford Road) from Route 806 to dead end.
  • Route 652 (Kennedy Road) from Route 602 to Route 603
  • Route 669 (Ringwood Road) from Route 602 to Route 603.

  • Routes 615, 652 – Drainage pipe repair.
  • Routes 646, 663, 1441 – Pavement patching.
  • Route 1406 – Shoulder repairs and ditching.

 

Fluvanna County

(NEW) Route 600 (North Boston Road) – Milling, paving and line painting from Route 616 (Union Mills Road) to Route 633 (North Boston Road). Monday through Friday, traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck. Obey traffic controls.

(NEW) Route 623 (Perkins Road) – Geotechnical work at bridge over a branch of Venable Creek, located approximately 0.3 mile east of Route 659 (Kent Store Way). One lane closed with flagging on Tuesday. Obey traffic controls.

Various routes – Roadway resurfacing at the locations listed below. Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck. Obey traffic controls.

  • Route 605 (Shannon Hill Road) from Route 659 to Goochland County line.
  • Route 606 (Rivanna Mills Road) from Route 628 to Route 641.

  • Routes 602, 615 – Pavement patching.

 

Louisa County

Route 33 (Jefferson Highway) – Utility company performing communications cable work from Route 767 (School Bus Road) to the Hanover County line. Shoulder closures and intermittent lane closures with flagging. Use caution when traveling near the work zone.

Route 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway) – Milling, paving and line painting. Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck between Route 770 (Johnny Hall Road) and Route 208 (New Bridge Road). Obey traffic controls.

(NEW) Route 609 (Buckner Road) – Rehabilitating bridge over Long Creek. Starting Monday, Route 609 closed to through traffic. Southbound motorists will be detoured west on Route 612 (Halls Store Road) to Route 33 (Jefferson Highway), and then east on Route 648 (Jouett School Road), which carries traffic back to Route 609. Northbound traffic will reverse the detour. Anticipated completion Nov.18.

(NEW) Route 681 (Woodley Lane) – Paving of gravel road. Monday through Friday during daytime hours, expect intermittent lane closures. Obey traffic controls.

Various routes – Roadway resurfacing at the locations listed below. Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck. Obey traffic controls.

  • Route 601 (Wickham Road) from Route 33 to Route 655.
  • Route 601 (Paynes Mill Road) from Route 522 to Route 33.
  • Route 626 (Evergreen Road) from Route 250 to Route 640.
  • Route 640 (East Jack Jouett Road) from Route 208 to Route 613.
  • Route 653 (Grace Johnson Road) from Route 659 to Fluvanna County line.
  • Route 721 (Watkins Lane) from Route 688 to end of state maintenance.

Madison County

(UPDATE) Route 230 (Wolftown-Hood Road) – Rehabilitating the bridge over the Conway River.  A temporary traffic signal is in place to control two-way traffic through the work zone. Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., expect lane closures in both directions between the Greene County line and Route 666 (Pea Ridge Road). Motorists should obey traffic controls, use caution traveling through the work zone and expect minor delays. Anticipated completion November 2017.

Route 614 (Twymans Mill Road) – Intersection improvements at Route 706 (Turner Drive). Portion of the road closed with westbound traffic detoured to Route 15 (James Madison Highway) to Route 230 (Orange Road) to Route 705 (Twymans Mill Road) and back to Route 614. Eastbound traffic will reverse the detour. Anticipated completion Oct. 17.

Orange County

Various routes – Roadway resurfacing and line painting at the locations listed below. Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck. Obey traffic controls.

  • Route 612 (Monrovia Road) from the Spotsylvania County line to Route 651.
  • Route 631 (Brick Church Road) from Route 612 to Route 20.
  • Route 660 (Old Lawyers Road) from Route 621 to Route 692.

Rappahannock County

Route 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway) – Rehabilitating bridge over Wilson Branch. A temporary traffic signal is in place to control two-way traffic. Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., motorists can expect intermittent lane closures with flagging. Use caution approaching the work zone and obey all traffic controls. Anticipated completion November 2016.

Route 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway) – Milling, paving and line painting on northbound lanes from Route 664 (Huntley Road) to the Route 635 (Hume Road) crossover. Monday through Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck. Obey traffic controls.
