Culpeper District Traffic Alerts: Nov. 30-Dec. 4

road-work-headerThe following highway work is scheduled, weather permitting, in the Culpeper District during the upcoming week. Traffic movements may be restricted and speed limits reduced in work zones. (NEW) or (UPDATE) indicate revisions since last week’s report.

(UPDATE) Route 29/250 Bypass interchange – Contractor is installing storm drain structures; installing a new traffic signal at Angus Road; building sidewalks and installing guardrail in the Route 29 median; and widening the ramp. Motorists should be alert for equipment entering and exiting the highway.

–        On Monday and Tuesday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., the westbound Route 250 Bypass right lane will be closed from Hydraulic Road to Barracks Road and the ramp from southbound Route 29 to the Route 250 Bypass west will be closed with a detour in place for motorists.

–        On Wednesday and Thursday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., the ramp from Route 250 Bypass west to Barracks Road will be closed with a detour in place for motorists.

–        Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Route 250 Bypass outside lanes will be closed in both directions from Route 29 to Barracks Road.

–        Installation of drainage structures along the Barracks Road ramp to the Route 250 Bypass eastbound. Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., the ramp will be narrowed with a right shoulder closure. The acceleration lane on Route 250 Bypass eastbound will be shortened and motorists will be required to stop before merging into the travel lane. The eastbound Route 250 Bypass right shoulder will be closed in the vicinity of the merge area.

(UPDATE) Rio Road grade-separated intersection – Utility relocation work continues in the vicinity of the Rio Road intersection. The following work is scheduled Monday through Saturday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.:

–        Alternating triple lane closures will be in place on northbound Route 29 from Fashion Square Drive to Albemarle Square. Motorists wishing to turn left from Route 29 to Rio Road should use Berkmar Drive as the detour route.

–        Alternating triple lane closures will be in place on southbound Route 29 from Albemarle Square to Fashion Square Drive. Motorists wishing to turn left from Route 29 to Rio Road should use Branchlands Boulevard and Hillsdale Drive as the detour route.

–        Both directions of Rio Road will be closed in the vicinity of the intersection with a single lane open for local business traffic. Motorists wishing to reach Route 29 should follow posted detour signs.

(UPDATE) Route 29 widening – Median clearing from Polo Grounds Road to Towncenter Drive. The following work on Route 29 is scheduled Monday through Saturday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.:

–        Single alternating lane closures will occur on northbound and southbound Route 29 from Towncenter Drive to Rio Mills Road.

 

 

Albemarle County

Interstate 64 – Installation of infrastructure and devices for active traffic management system on Afton Mountain. Left shoulder closed in both directions between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday from mile marker 107 (Crozet exit) to mile marker 94 in Augusta County. Motorists should keep right and use caution approaching the work zone. Anticipated completion Jan. 15.

(UPDATE) Interstate 64 – Mowing along eastbound and westbound shoulders between mile markers 124 and 99. Daily shoulder and intermittent mobile lane closures will occur. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

(UPDATE) Route 29 (Monacan Trail Road) – Installing pavement markers from just north of Route 692 (Plank Road) to Route 760 (Red Hill School Road). Tuesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., a mobile work zone will reduce traffic to one lane. Obey traffic controls.

(NEW) Route 53 (Thomas Jefferson Parkway) – Asphalt crack-sealing from just south of Jefferson Lake Drive to Monticello Loop. Mobile work zone moving south between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Expect delays.

Route 677 (Broomley Road) – Replacement of bridge over Buckingham-Branch Railroad. Road closed with southbound traffic detoured right onto Route 677 (Old Ballard Road) to Route 676/678 (Owensville Road) to Route 250 (Ivy Road). Northbound motorists will reverse the detour. Access to all residences and businesses will be maintained during the closure.

Route 784 (Doctors Crossing) – Paving of gravel road. Monday through Thursday between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., mobile lane closures with flagging will occur.

Route 854 (Carrsbrook Drive) – Drainage pipe rehabilitation. The road will be closed daily between Route 1432 (North Indian Spring Road) and Route 1419 (Marlboro Court). East of the closure, motorists should follow the posted detour via Route 652 (Westmoreland Road/Old Brook Road). West of the closure, Route 854 will remain accessible from Route 29. Anticipated completion Dec. 11.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 22, 53, 636, 637, 689, 713 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 22, 29, 250, 614, 649, 691, 743 – Shoulder repair and ditching.
  • Routes 53, 1174, 1186, 11192, 1193 – Asphalt crack sealing.
  • Routes 625, 626, 627, 640, 712 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 633, 634, 640, 683, 691, 698, 746, 751, 808 – Machining of gravel roads.

 

 

Culpeper County

(UPDATE) Route 3 (Germanna Highway) – Roadway widening to four lanes. Clearing, excavation and utility relocation will occur along the route from Stevensburg to Lignum. Motorists should be alert for workers near the travel lanes and for trucks entering and exiting the highway.

  • On Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., alternating single lane closures will occur from Route 739 (Clay Hill Road) to Sandy Springs Lane. Flagging will occur.
  • Speed limit reduced to 45 mph in the work zone.

(NEW) Route 15 (James Madison Highway) – Tree trimming. Monday from noon to 5 p.m. and Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., alternating single lane closures will occur from the town of Culpeper to the Madison County line. Traffic will be controlled by flagging. Expect delays.

(UPDATE) Route 29 (James Madison Highway) – Construction of new interchange at Route 666 (Braggs Corner Road). Intermittent lane closures will occur Monday from noon to 5 p.m. and Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Speed limit reduced to 35 mph on Route 666 through the work zone. Motorists should be alert and use caution approaching the intersection. Anticipated completion August 2017.

Route 633 (Norman Road) – Placing stone along the shoulders from Route 719 (Mountain Run Lake Road) to Route 522 (Sperryville Pike). Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck. Obey traffic controls and use caution through the work zone.

Route 633 (Hudson Mill Road) – Placing stone along the shoulders from Route 644 (Reva Road) to Route 643 (North Merrimac Road). Monday through Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck. Obey traffic controls and use caution through the work zone.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 3, 20, 522 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 604, 605, 606, 608, 647, 652, 655, 662, 673, 675, 676, 680, 681, 684, 688, 689, 698, 709, 723, 736 – Machining of gravel roads.

 

 

Fauquier County

(NEW) Interstate 66 – Bridge repairs. Monday through Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., alternating eastbound and westbound lane closures will occur from mile marker 20 to mile marker 35. Expect brief delays.

(UPDATE) Interstate 66 – Mowing along eastbound and westbound shoulders between mile markers 38.5 and 13. Daily shoulder and intermittent mobile lane closures will occur. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

(NEW) Route 15/29 Bypass (James Madison Highway) – Guardrail installation from just north of Route 17 Business to just north of Route 880 (Lord Fairfax Road). Westbound traffic reduced to one lane Monday through Wednesday from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

(UPDATE) Route 245 (Old Tavern Road) – Line striping and installing raised pavement markers from Route 17 (Winchester Road) to approximately 0.4 mile north of Route 750 (Harrison Road). On Monday from noon to 5 p.m. and Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck. Expect delays.

(UPDATE) Route 688 (Leeds Manor Road) – Replacing bridge over Thumb Run. Intermittent shoulder and lane closures will occur Monday from noon to 5 p.m. and Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Anticipated completion July 2016.

  • Routes 602, 616, 667, 682, 684, 685, 780 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 602, 629, 635, 647, 669, 670, 721, 724, 726, 776 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 615, 634, 648, 654, 664, 665, 674, 688, 683, 705, 724, 726, 737, 739, 761, 775, 778, 782, 788, 803, 809, 814, 817, 820, 823 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Routes 616, 623, 628, 658, 678, 680, 690, 691, 739, 904 – Shoulder repair and ditching.

 

 

Fluvanna County

Route 6 (East River Road) – Replacement of the Rivanna River bridge. Road reduced to one lane with two-way traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls as they approach the area. Anticipated completion summer 2016.

  • Routes 15, 53, 624 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 606, 609, 612, 614, 640, 650 – Mowing.

 

 

Greene County

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 614, 632, 633 – Drainage pipe replacement.
  • Routes 614, 632 – Machining of gravel roads.

 

 

Louisa County

(NEW) Interstate 64 – Installing rumble strips from mile marker 135 to mile marker 137. On Monday from noon to 3 p.m., a mobile work zone will reduce traffic to one lane. Obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

(UPDATE) Route 33 (Louisa Road) – Line painting from Route 22 (Louisa Road) to Route 1002 (South Street). Tuesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., a mobile work zone will reduce traffic to one lane. Obey traffic controls.

(UPDATE) Route 693 (Kents Mill Road) – Drainage pipe rehabilitation. Monday from noon to 5 p.m. and Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., intermittent lane closures will occur approximately 2 miles north of Route 22 (Louisa Road). Traffic will be controlled by flagging.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 22, 33, 208, 250, 640 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Route 655 – Shoulder repair and ditching.

 

 

Madison County

(NEW) Route 29 (Seminole Trail) – Line painting from Route 662 (Shelby Road) to 1 mile south of Route 230 (Wolftown-Hood Road). Monday from noon to 5 p.m. and Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., mobile lane closures will reduce southbound traffic to one lane. Obey traffic controls.

Route 231 (N. Blue Ridge Turnpike) – Replacement of bridge over Mulatto Run. Road reduced to one lane with two-way traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals. Anticipated completion Dec. 18.

 

 

Orange County

(NEW) Route 3 (Germanna Highway) – The week of Nov. 30, a crew plans to install a flashing yellow arrow signal at Route 708 (Somerset Ridge Road) in the eastbound direction only. Minimal traffic impacts are expected, but motorists should use caution approaching the intersection and be alert for workers and equipment near the travel lanes.

(UPDATE) Route 20 (Constitution Highway) – Installing raised pavement markers from Route 741 (Lafayette Drive) to approximately 0.1 mile south of Route 729 (Tannery Road). The work will require mobile lane closures on Monday from noon to 3 p.m. and Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Obey traffic controls.

(NEW) Route 20 (Constritution Highway) – The week of Nov. 30, a crew plans to install a flashing yellow arrow signal at Route 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway) in Unionville. Minimal traffic impacts are expected, but motorists should use caution approaching the intersection and be alert for workers and equipment near the travel lanes.

(NEW) Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) – Shoulder repair and ditching. On Thursday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., the westbound lane will be closed between Route 657 (Albano Road) and Route 644 (Ridge Road), with traffic controlled by flagging. Obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

  • Route 20 – Mowing.
  • Routes 20, 33, 700, 1029 – Shoulder repair and ditching.
  • Routes 624, 687 – Pavement patching.

 

 

Rappahannock County

(UPDATE) Route 211 (Lee Highway) – Installing pavement markers from Route 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway) to approximately 0.6 mile west of Route 678 (Jordans Road). Eastbound traffic reduced to one lane Monday from noon to 5 p.m.and Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

(UPDATE) Route 637 (Jericho Road) – Replacement of bridge over Big Indian Run. Intermittent lane closures will occurMonday from noon to 5 p.m. and Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with traffic controlled by flagging. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls as they approach the area. Anticipated completion May 2016.
