Culpeper District Traffic Alerts: Jan. 4-8

road-work-headerThe following highway work is scheduled, weather permitting, in the Culpeper District during the upcoming week. Traffic movements may be restricted and speed limits reduced in work zones. (NEW) or (UPDATE) indicate revisions since last week’s report.

VDOT will suspend most highway work zones during the New Year’s holiday to limit congestion and provide as many travel lanes as possible. Lane closures will be lifted on interstates and other major roads from noon Thursday, Dec. 31 to noonMonday, Jan. 4, 2016. For more information, read VDOT’s holiday travel news release.

(UPDATE) Route 29/250 Bypass interchange – Contractor is installing storm drain structures; erecting a new traffic signal at Angus Road; building sidewalks and installing guardrail in the Route 29 median; and widening the ramp. Motorists should be alert for equipment entering and exiting the highway.

–        From noon to 4 p.m. Monday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, left lane closed in both directions on the Route 250 Bypass between Hydraulic Road and Barracks Road.

–        The ramp from Barracks Road to the Route 250 Bypass east will be narrowed and the acceleration lane from the ramp will be shortened, requiring motorists to stop before merging into the travel lanes.

 

(UPDATE) Rio Road grade-separated intersection – Utility relocation work continues in the vicinity of the Rio Road intersection. The following work on Route 29 is scheduled Monday through Friday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.:

–        Alternating triple lane closures will be in place in both directions on Route 29 between Fashion Square Drive and Albemarle Square.

–        Both directions of Rio Road will be closed in the vicinity of the Route 29 intersection. All left-turn movements at the intersection will be restricted; right turns will be permitted. Motorists should use the posted detour routes.

 

(UPDATE) Route 29 widening – Median clearing from Polo Grounds Road to Towncenter Drive. Monday through Friday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., alternating lane closures will occur in both directions on Route 29 from just north of North Hollymead Drive to just south of Ashwood Boulevard.

 

 

Albemarle County

(UPDATE) Interstate 64 – Installation of infrastructure and devices for active traffic management system on Afton Mountain. Left shoulder closed in both directions between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday from mile marker 107 (Crozet exit) to mile marker 94 in Augusta County. Motorists should keep right and use caution approaching the work zone. Anticipated completion Feb. 27.

(NEW) Route 29 (Monacan Trail) – Replacement of drainage pipe. Southbound right lane closed from 9 a.m. to noonWednesday between Route 692 (Plank Road) and Route 804 (Thackers Lane). Be alert for workers and equipment in the roadway.

Route 677 (Broomley Road) – Bridge replacement. Minor finishing work will require intermittent single lane closures with traffic controlled by flaggers. Motorists should anticipate brief delays during daytime work hours.

(NEW) Route 710 (Taylors Gap Road) – Replacement of drainage pipe. Road closed from 9 a.m. to noon Monday between Route 29 (Monacan Trail) and Route 760 (Red Hill School Road). Motorists should follow posted detour route.

(NEW) Route 719 (Alberene Road) – Replacement of drainage pipe. Road closed from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday between Route 793 (Serene Lane) and Route 717 (Secretarys Sand Road). Motorists should follow posted detour route.

(NEW) Route 854 (Carrsbrook Drive) – Finishing work on drainage pipe rehabilitation project. Intermittent lane closures with flagging will occur between Route 1432 (North Indian Spring Road) and Route 1419 (Marlboro Court). Expect minor delays.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Route 29 – Debris cleanup.
  • Routes 250, 616, 620, 677, 691, 696, 708, 736, 796 – Shoulder repair and ditching.
  • Routes 600, 612, 712, 713, 774 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Routes 600, 641, 665, 667 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Route 746 – Pipe replacement.

 

 

Culpeper County

Route 3 (Germanna Highway) – Roadway widening to four lanes. Clearing, excavation and utility relocation will occur along the route from Stevensburg to Lignum. Motorists should be alert for workers near the travel lanes and for trucks entering and exiting the highway. Speed limit reduced to 45 mph in the work zone.

(UPDATE) Route 29 (James Madison Highway) – Construction of new interchange at Route 666 (Braggs Corner Road). Intermittent lane closures will occur during daytime and overnight hours. Speed limit reduced to 35 mph on Route 666 and to 50 mph on Route 29 through the work zone. Anticipated completion August 2017.

(NEW) Route 784 (Western Outer Loop) – Construction of new roadway. Preliminary work will require intermittent shoulder closures at the Route 522 (Sperryville Pike) and Route 729 (Eggbornsville Road) intersections. Anticipated completion November 2017.

  • Route 15/29 – Pipe repairs.
  • Routes 15/29, 626 – Shoulder repairs and ditching.
  • Routes 522, 615 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 621, 629, 632, 638, 678, 714, 716, 717 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 624, 626, 628, 629, 630, 635, 646, 693, 710, 713, 714, 737 – Machining of gravel roads.

 

 

Fauquier County

(NEW) Route 688 (Leeds Manor Road) – Replacing bridge over Thumb Run. Intermittent lane closures will occur from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls as they approach the area. Anticipated completion July 2016.

  • Routes 17, 602, 604, 647, 674, 802 – Shoulder repair and ditching.
  • Route 211 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 602, 670 – Pipe repairs.
  • Routes 623, 628, 673, 681, 688, 692, 694, 698, 729, 734, 735 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Route 687 – Pavement patching.

 

 

Fluvanna County

Route 6 (East River Road) – Replacement of the Rivanna River bridge. Road reduced to one lane with two-way traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls as they approach the area. Anticipated completion summer 2016.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 6, 15, 53, 600, 604, 626, 629, 630, 631, 676, 759 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 6, 605 – Shoulder repairs and ditching.

 

 

Greene County

Route 642 (Simms Road) – Paving of gravel road. Mobile lane closures with flagging will occur from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Obey traffic controls.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Route 614, 624, 630, 632, 634, 676 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Route 743 – Shoulder repair and ditching.

 

 

Louisa County

(NEW) Route 699 (Indian Creek Road) – Paving of gravel road. Mobile lane closures with flagging will occur from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Obey traffic controls.

  • Routes 613, 626, 640, 669 – Pavement patching.
  • Route 617, 636, 638, 640, 695, 747, 768, F192 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Routes 623, 637, 652 – Shoulder repair and ditching.

 

 

Madison County

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Route 613 – Drainage pipe installation.
  • Route 657 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.

 

 

Orange County

(NEW) Route 15 (North Main Street) – Replacement of drainage pipe. Road closed overnight on Wednesday and Thursday, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., at the traffic circle. Motorists will be detoured via High Street and Route 231 (West Gordon Avenue).

(UPDATE) Route 231 (Blue Ridge Turnpike) – Tree trimming in both directions from Route 33 in Orange County to Route 230 in Madison County. Single lane closures with flagging will occur on Monday from noon to 5 p.m. and Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Expect delays of up to five minutes.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 3, 20, 522 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 15 north, 1120 – Pavement patching.
  • Route 614 – Shoulder repairs and ditching.

 

 

Rappahannock County

(UPDATE) Route 211 (Lee Highway) – Tree trimming in both directions from the Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department to Thornton Gap. Single lane closures with flagging will occur on Monday from noon to 5 p.m. and Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Expect delays of up to five minutes.

(NEW) Route 637 (Jericho Road) – Replacement of bridge over Big Indian Run. Traffic switch to temporary bridge will occur on or about Tuesday. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures with flagging, Monday through Friday. Anticipated completion May 2.

  • Routes 614, 622, 630, 631, 633, 637, 638, 672 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Route 622 – Pavement patching.
