Culpeper District Traffic Alerts for Dec. 5-9

road work transportationThe following highway work is scheduled, weather permitting, in the Culpeper District during the upcoming week. Traffic movements may be restricted and speed limits reduced in work zones. (NEW) or (UPDATE) indicate revisions since last week’s report.

(UPDATE) Rio Road grade-separated intersection – The project is complete and the speed limit has been restored to 45 mph through the project limits.

Route 29 widening – Northbound traffic is on a new alignment between Route 643 (Polo Grounds Road) and Route 1719 (Towncenter Drive). Motorists should be alert for signs and other traffic controls to direct them through the work zone. This lane shift will allow reconstruction of the existing northbound lanes and multi-use path just east of the roadway.

Travel lanes are narrowed and shoulders are closed within the work zone and the speed limit is reduced to 40 mph. Expect intermittent single lane closures Monday through Friday between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Motorists should remain alert and use caution through the work zone.

(UPDATE) Berkmar Drive Extended – Rio Mills Road will be closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday between Route 29 and Millers Cottage Lane while concrete is being poured for the bridge deck. If the pour is completed Monday, the Tuesday closure will not be necessary. On Towncenter Drive in the vicinity of the roundabout, motorists should be alert for dump trucks and other equipment entering and exiting the roadway.

Hillsdale Drive Extended – Obey traffic controls and expect minor delays on Hillsdale Drive, Hydraulic Road, India Road, Zan Road, Greenbrier Drive, Pepsi Place and Seminole Court. For project updates, visithttp://hillsdaledrive.org.

 

Albemarle County

Interstate 64 – Installation of infrastructure and devices for active traffic management system on Afton Mountain. Shoulder closures in both directions between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday from mile marker 107 (Crozet exit) to mile marker 94 in Augusta County. Motorists should use caution approaching the work zone.

(UPDATE) Route 53 (Thomas Jefferson Parkway) – Pipe replacement at Route 729 (Milton Road). Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging.

(NEW) Route 618 (Jefferson Mill Road) – Mobile paving operations in both directions from Route 620 (Rolling Road) to Route 795 (Blenheim Road). Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., expect lane closures controlled by flagging.

(NEW) Route 743 (Advance Mills Road) – Mobile pothole patching operations in both directions from Route 663 (Buck Mountain Road) To Route 660 (Earlysville Forest Drive). Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., expect lane closures controlled by flagging.

(NEW) Route 795 (Blenheim Road) – Mobile paving operations in both directions from Route 727 (Blenheim Road) to Route 620 (Rolling Road). Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., expect lane closures controlled by flagging.

 

Culpeper County

(UPDATE) Route 3 (Germanna Highway) – Roadway widening to four lanes from Stevensburg to Lignum. Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., stay alert for intermittent lane closures from 0.9 mile west of Route 663 (Stevensburg Road) to Route 669 (Carrico Mills Road). Traffic will be controlled by flagging. Speed limit reduced to 45 mph in the work zone. Motorists should be alert for workers near the travel lanes and for trucks entering and exiting the highway.

Route 29 (James Madison Highway) – Construction of new interchange at Route 666 (Braggs Corner Road). Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., intermittent lane closures will occur on Route 29 and Route 666. Speed limit reduced to 35 mph on Route 666 and to 50 mph on Route 29 through the work zone. Anticipated completion August 2017.

(UPDATE) Route 29 (James Monroe Highway) – Restricted crossing U-turn intersection at Route 718 (Mountain Run Lake Road) is expected to open to traffic in the late afternoon Dec. 5, weather permitting. Motorists should use caution as traffic adjusts to the new pattern and expect intermittent lane closures while traffic-control devices are removed this week.

(UPDATE) Route 229 (North Main Street) – Roadway widening to four lanes. Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., occasional lane closures with flagging will occur through the work zone. Stay alert for workers near the travel lanes and for trucks entering and exiting the highway. Anticipated completion August 2017.

(UPDATE) Route 522 (Sperryville Pike) – Roadway widening in association with the Route 784 (Western Outer Loop/Ira Hoffman Lane) project. Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.,  occasional lane closures with flagging will occur from Route 641 (Gibson Mill Road) to Route 763 (Saint Jameson Road).

Route 685 (Fleetwood Heights Road) – Rehabilitating bridge over Flat Run. Road closed to through traffic. Drivers west of the bridge should use Route 663 (Alanthus Road) to Route 15/29 (James Madison Highway) and turn left on Route 676 (Beverley Ford Road), which carries traffic back to Route 685. Motorists on the east side of the bridge should reverse the detour. Driveway access will be maintained for local traffic. Anticipated completion Dec. 23.

 

Fauquier County

(UPDATE) Interstate 66 – Mowing operations in both directions between mile markers 14 and 37. Mondaythrough Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., intermittent lane closures are possible while equipment navigates across bridges and around guardrail.

Route 245 (Old Tavern Road) – Rehabilitating bridge over Broad Run. A temporary traffic signal is in place to control two-way traffic through the work zone. Motorists should obey traffic controls and use caution traveling through the work zone. Anticipated completion April 2017.

(NEW) Route 605 (Dumfries Road) – Pipe replacement between Route 676 (Riley Road) and Route 602 (Rogues Road). Monday through Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging.

(NEW) Route 647 (Crest Hill Road) – Pipe replacement between Route 721 (Free State Road) and Route 635 (Hume Road). Monday and Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., road closed to through traffic. A detour will be in place to direct eastbound motorists left on Route 635 (Hume Road), right on Route 732 (Ramey Road) and right on F-185 (Grove Lane). Grove Lane will allow drivers to access Route 721 (Free State Road), the town of Marshall and Interstate 66. Westbound motorists should reverse the detour.

 

Fluvanna County

(UPDATE) Route 15 (James Madison Highway) – Construction of roundabout at Route 53 (Thomas Jefferson Parkway). Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., motorists can expect intermittent lane closures controlled by flagging. Anticipated completion August 2017.

 

Louisa County

Route 33 (Jefferson Highway) – Utility company performing communications cable work from Route 767 (School Bus Road) to the Hanover County line. Shoulder closures and intermittent lane closures with flagging. Use caution when traveling near the work zone.

(UPDATE)  Route 609 (Buckner Road) – The bridge opened to two-way traffic and all legal loads on Dec. 2. Motorists should use caution when traveling through the work zone while crews perform remaining tasks.

(NEW) Route 640 (East Old Mountain Road) – Pipe replacement between Route 699 (Indian Creek Road) and Route 698 (Rolling Path Road). Monday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., eastbound traffic will be detoured on Route 606 (Walton Store Road) to Route 698 (Rolling Path Road), which carries traffic back to Route 640. Westbound motorists will reverse the detour.

 

Madison County

Route 230 (Wolftown-Hood Road) – Rehabilitating the bridge over the Conway River.  A temporary traffic signal is in place to control two-way traffic through the work zone. Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., expect lane closures in both directions between the Greene County line and Route 666 (Pea Ridge Road). Motorists should obey traffic controls, use caution traveling through the work zone and expect minor delays. Anticipated completion November 2017.

 

Orange County

(NEW) Route 795 (Blenheim Road) – Mobile paving operations in both directions from Route 727 (Blenheim Road) to Route 620 (Rolling Road). Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., expect lane closures controlled by flagging.
