The following highway work is scheduled, weather permitting, in the Culpeper District during the upcoming week. Traffic movements may be restricted and speed limits reduced in work zones. (NEW) or (UPDATE) indicate revisions since last week’s report.

(UPDATE) Route 29/250 Bypass interchange – Contractor is installing storm drain structures; installing a new traffic signal at Angus Road; building sidewalks and installing guardrail in the Route 29 median; and widening the ramp. Motorists should be alert for equipment entering and exiting the highway.
– Sunday, Dec. 13 through Thursday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., the outside lane on Route 29 southbound will be closed from Hydraulic Road to the Route 250 Bypass. The ramp from Route 29 southbound to Route 250 Bypass west will be closed with a detour in place for motorists.
– Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., the inside lanes on Route 250 Bypass will be closed in both directions from Hydraulic Road to Barracks Road.
– On Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., the traffic signals on Barracks Road at the Route 250 Bypass will be in a flashing yellow mode while crews make the necessary repairs. Motorists should use caution approaching the intersection.
– On Thursday, pavement markings will be eradicated and re-painted along the Barracks Road ramp to the Route 250 Bypass east. Mobile lane and shoulder closures will occur between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Motorists should use caution through the work zone and obey all traffic controls.
– Beginning Thursday, traffic on the ramp from Route 250 Bypass west to Barracks Road will be shifted to the left side of the ramp. The ramp will be narrowed with a right shoulder closure.
– On Saturday, Dec. 12 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Barracks Road ramp to the Route 250 Bypass east will be narrowed with a right shoulder closure. The acceleration lane on Route 250 Bypass eastbound will be shortened and motorists will be required to stop before merging into the travel lane.
Rio Road grade-separated intersection – Utility relocation work continues in the vicinity of the Rio Road intersection. The following work on Route 29 is scheduled Sunday, Dec. 13 through Friday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.:
– Alternating triple lane closures will be in place on northbound Route 29 from Fashion Square Drive to Albemarle Square. Motorists wishing to turn left from Route 29 to Rio Road should use Berkmar Drive as the detour route.
– Alternating triple lane closures will be in place on southbound Route 29 from Albemarle Square to Fashion Square Drive. Motorists wishing to turn left from Route 29 to Rio Road should use Branchlands Boulevard and Hillsdale Drive as the detour route.
– Both directions of Rio Road will be closed in the vicinity of the intersection with a single lane open for local business traffic. Motorists wishing to reach Route 29 should follow posted detour signs.
Route 29 widening – Median clearing from Polo Grounds Road to Towncenter Drive. The following work on Route 29 is scheduled Sunday, Dec. 13 through Friday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.:
– Single alternating lane closures will occur on northbound and southbound Route 29 from Towncenter Drive to Rio Mills Road.
– Intermittent lane closures and periodic traffic stops on Route 29 southbound will occur for temporary signal installation at Ashwood Boulevard and North Hollymead Drive. Motorists should use caution approaching the intersections.
Albemarle County
Interstate 64 – Installation of infrastructure and devices for active traffic management system on Afton Mountain. Left shoulder closed in both directions between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday from mile marker 107 (Crozet exit) to mile marker 94 in Augusta County. Motorists should keep right and use caution approaching the work zone. Anticipated completion Jan. 15.
(NEW) Interstate 64 – Repairs to the eastbound and westbound bridges over Route 682 (Broad Axe Road). Monday through Friday, intermittent lane and shoulder closures may occur on I-64 and on Route 682 at the bridges. Motorists should remain alert for workers near the travel lanes, and for equipment entering and exiting the highway.
Route 677 (Broomley Road) – Replacement of bridge over Buckingham-Branch Railroad. Road closed with southbound traffic detoured right onto Route 677 (Old Ballard Road) to Route 676/678 (Owensville Road) to Route 250 (Ivy Road). Northbound motorists will reverse the detour. Access to all residences and businesses will be maintained during the closure.
(NEW) Route 696 (Edge Valley Road) – Drainage pipe replacement between Route 710 (Taylors Gap Road) and Route 692 (Plank Road). Single lane closures with flagging with occur Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Obey traffic controls.
Route 784 (Doctors Crossing) – Paving of gravel road. Monday through Thursday between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., mobile lane closures with flagging will occur.
Route 854 (Carrsbrook Drive) – Drainage pipe rehabilitation. The road will be closed daily between Route 1432 (North Indian Spring Road) and Route 1419 (Marlboro Court). East of the closure, motorists should follow the posted detour via Route 652 (Westmoreland Road/Old Brook Road). West of the closure, Route 854 will remain accessible from Route 29.

- Routes 20, 53, 231, 250, 627, 713, 796, F-179 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
- Routes 29, 250, 614, 649 – Shoulder repair and ditching.

- Route 696 – Pipe replacement.
Culpeper County
(UPDATE) Route 3 (Germanna Highway) – Roadway widening to four lanes. Clearing, excavation and utility relocation will occur along the route from Stevensburg to Lignum. Motorists should be alert for workers near the travel lanes and for trucks entering and exiting the highway. Speed limit reduced to 45 mph in the work zone.
Route 15 (James Madison Highway) – Tree trimming. Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., single lane closures will occur from the town of Culpeper to the Madison County line. Traffic will be controlled by flagging. Expect delays of up to five minutes.
(UPDATE) Route 29 (James Madison Highway) – Construction of new interchange at Route 666 (Braggs Corner Road). Monday through Thursday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., the Route 29 southbound right lane and right-turn lane onto Route 666 will be closed for bridge beam installation over Route 29 south. Residents are advised that construction noise will occur from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly for earthwork on the eastern side of the project. Intermittent lane closures will occur Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Speed limit reduced to 35 mph on Route 666 and to 50 mph on Route 29 through the work zone. Motorists should be alert and use caution approaching the intersection. Anticipated completion August 2017.
Route 1230 (Rogers Road) – Drainage pipe installation at two locations along Route 1230. Single lane closures with flagging with occur. Access to driveways will be maintained.

Fauquier County
(UPDATE) Route 688 (Leeds Manor Road) – Replacing bridge over Thumb Run. Monday through Friday, preparatory work for the installation of temporary traffic signals at the bridge will require intermittent lane and shoulder closures. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls as they approach the area. Anticipated completion July 2016.

Fluvanna County
Route 6 (East River Road) – Replacement of the Rivanna River bridge. Road reduced to one lane with two-way traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls as they approach the area. Anticipated completion summer 2016.

Route 642 (Simms Road) – Paving of gravel road. On Thursday and Friday between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., mobile lane closures with flagging will occur. Obey traffic controls.

Louisa County
(UPDATE) Route 693 (Kents Mill Road) – Emergency drainage pipe replacement approximately 2 miles north of Route 22/33 (Louisa Road). The road will be closed daily to through traffic between Route 22/33 and Route 613 (Oakland Road). Motorists will be detoured via Route 22/33 and Route 613 during the closure. Access to driveway entrances will be maintained.

Madison County
Route 231 (N. Blue Ridge Turnpike) – Replacement of bridge over Mulatto Run. Road reduced to one lane with two-way traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals. Anticipated completion Dec. 18.

Orange County
(UPDATE) Route 3 (Germanna Highway) – On Tuesday, a crew plans to install a flashing yellow arrow signal at Route 708 (Somerset Ridge Road) in the eastbound direction only. Minimal traffic impacts are expected, but motorists should use caution approaching the intersection and be alert for workers and equipment near the travel lanes.
(UPDATE) Route 20 (Constitution Highway) – Shoulder repair and ditching. On Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., alternating lanes closed between Route 725 (Hook Road) and Route 671 (Village Road), with traffic controlled by flagging. Obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.
(UPDATE) Route 20 (Constitution Highway) – On Tuesday, a crew plans to install a flashing yellow arrow signal at Route 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway) in Unionville. Minimal traffic impacts are expected, but motorists should use caution approaching the intersection and be alert for workers and equipment near the travel lanes.
(UPDATE) Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) – Shoulder repair and ditching. On Thursday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., alternating lanes closed between Route 657 (Albano Road) and Route 644 (Ridge Road), with traffic controlled by flagging. Obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

Route 211 (Lee Highway) – Tree trimming in both directions from the Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department to Thornton Gap.Single lane closures with flagging will occur daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Expect delays of up to five minutes.
Route 637 (Jericho Road) – Replacement of bridge over Big Indian Run. Intermittent lane closures will occur Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with traffic controlled by flagging. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls as they approach the area. Anticipated completion May 2016.
