Culpeper District Traffic Alert: Nov. 23-27

road-work-headerThe following highway work is scheduled, weather permitting, in the Culpeper District during the upcoming week. Traffic movements may be restricted and speed limits reduced in work zones. (NEW) or (UPDATE) indicate revisions since last week’s report.

VDOT will suspend most highway work zones for several days during the Thanksgiving holiday travel period to provide as many travel lanes as possible. Lane closures will be lifted on interstates and other major roads from noon Wednesday, Nov. 25, untilnoon Monday, Nov. 30. For more details, read the news release.

(UPDATE) Route 29/250 Bypass interchange – Contractor is installing storm drain structures; installing a new traffic signal at Angus Road; building sidewalks and installing guardrail in the Route 29 median; and widening the ramp. Motorists should be alert for equipment entering and exiting the highway.

–        Sunday through Tuesday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., the southbound Route 29 outside lane will be closed from Hydraulic Road to the Route 250 Bypass. The ramp to westbound Route 250 Bypass will be closed with a detour in place for motorists.

–        On Monday and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to noon:

  • Installation of sidewalks along Route 29 at the Angus Road intersection. Right shoulder closures will be in place in both directions of Route 29 in the vicinity of the intersection.
  • Installation of drainage structures along the Barracks Road ramp to the Route 250 Bypass eastbound. The ramp will be narrowed with a right shoulder closure. The acceleration lane on Route 250 Bypass eastbound will be shortened and motorists will be required to stop before merging into the travel lane. The eastbound Route 250 Bypass right shoulder will be closed in the vicinity of the merge area.
  • The ramp from Route 250 Bypass west to Barracks Road will be narrowed with a left shoulder closure.
  • The westbound Route 250 Bypass outside lane will be closed from Hydraulic Road to Barracks Road.

 

(UPDATE) Rio Road grade-separated intersection – Utility relocation work continues in the vicinity of the Rio Road intersection. The following work is scheduled Sunday through Tuesday nights from 8:30 p.m. to 7 a.m.:

–        Alternating triple lane closures will be in place on northbound Route 29 from Fashion Square Drive to Albemarle Square. Motorists wishing to turn left from Route 29 to Rio Road should use Berkmar Drive as the detour route.

–        Alternating triple lane closures will be in place on southbound Route 29 from Albemarle Square to Fashion Square Drive. Motorists wishing to turn left from Route 29 to Rio Road should use Branchlands Boulevard and Hillsdale Drive as the detour route.

–        Both directions of Rio Road will be closed in the vicinity of the intersection with a single lane open for local business traffic. Motorists wishing to reach Route 29 should follow posted detour signs.

 

(UPDATE) Route 29 widening – Median clearing from Polo Grounds Road to Towncenter Drive. The following work on Route 29 is scheduled Sunday through Tuesday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.:

–        Single alternating lane closures will occur on northbound and southbound Route 29 from Towncenter Drive to Rio Mills Road.

 

 

Albemarle County

Interstate 64 – Installation of infrastructure and devices for active traffic management system on Afton Mountain. Left shoulder closed in both directions between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday from mile marker 107 (Crozet exit) to mile marker 94 in Augusta County. Motorists should keep right and use caution approaching the work zone. Anticipated completion Jan. 15.

(NEW) Interstate 64 – Mowing along eastbound and westbound shoulders between mile markers 124 and 99. Shoulder closures and intermittent mobile left lane closures will occur Saturday through Wednesday during daytime hours. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

(UPDATE) Route 20 (Stony Point Road) – Asphalt crack-sealing from Route 641 (Echo Valley Road) to Route 640 (Turkey Sag Road). Mobile work zone moving south between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Expect delays.

(UPDATE) Route 29 (Monacan Trail Road) – Paving and line painting from just north of Route 692 (Plank Road) to Route 760 (Red Hill School Road). Monday and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to noon, traffic will be reduced to one lane. Obey traffic controls.

(UPDATE) Route 250 (Richmond Road) – Line painting from 0.3 mile east of the Interstate 64 interchange at Shadwell to the Fluvanna County line. Monday and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to noon, mobile lane closures will reduce traffic to one lane. Obey traffic controls.

Route 677 (Broomley Road) – Replacement of bridge over Buckingham-Branch Railroad. Road closed with southbound traffic detoured right onto Route 677 (Old Ballard Road) to Route 676/678 (Owensville Road) to Route 250 (Ivy Road). Northbound motorists will reverse the detour. Access to all residences and businesses will be maintained during the closure.

Route 854 (Carrsbrook Drive) – Drainage pipe rehabilitation. The road will be closed daily between Route 1432 (North Indian Spring Road) and Route 1419 (Marlboro Court). East of the closure, motorists should follow the posted detour via Route 652 (Westmoreland Road/Old Brook Road). West of the closure, Route 854 will remain accessible from Route 29. Anticipated completion Dec. 11.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 20, 53, 231, 250 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 626, 641, 1421 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 636, 683 – Machining of gravel roads.

 

 

Culpeper County

(UPDATE) Route 3 (Germanna Highway) – Roadway widening to four lanes. Clearing, excavation and utility relocation will occur along the route from Stevensburg to Lignum. Motorists should be alert for workers near the travel lanes and for trucks entering and exiting the highway.

  • On Saturday, Nov. 21, based on weather and progress of work, both directions of traffic will be switched to begin using the newly paved lanes between Lignum and Route 669 (Carrico Mills Road).
  • On Monday and Tuesday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., alternating single lane closures will occur from Clover Hill Road to Route 663 (Stevensburg Road). Flagging will occur.
  • On Monday and Tuesday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., alternating single lane closures will occur from Route 739 (Clay Hill Road) to Sandy Springs Lane. Flagging will occur.
  • Speed limit reduced to 45 mph in the work zone.

(UPDATE) Route 15/29 (James Madison Highway) – Installing raised pavement markers. On Monday and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to noon, a mobile work zone will reduce southbound traffic to one lane from Route 663 (Alanthus Road) to Route 676 (Beverly Ford Road/Berry Hill Road).

(UPDATE) Route 29 (James Madison Highway) – Construction of new interchange at Route 666 (Braggs Corner Road). Intermittent lane closures will occur Monday and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to noon. Speed limit reduced to 35 mph on Route 666 through the work zone. Motorists should be alert and use caution approaching the intersection. Anticipated completion August 2017.

(UPDATE) Route 15/29 Business (Brandy Road) – Removal of center island in the median at the Route 666 (Braggs Corner Road) intersection. Monday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the Route 15/29 Business outside lanes will be closed at the intersection. Motorists should use caution approaching the work zone and be alert for workers and equipment near the travel lanes.

(NEW) Route 229 (Rixeyville Road) – Overnight Tuesday, crews will install a flashing yellow arrow signal at the two intersections on Route 229 listed below. Minimal traffic impacts are expected, but motorists should use caution approaching the intersection and be alert for workers and equipment near the travel lanes.

  • Route 229 at Route 729 (Eggbornsville Road)/Route 694 (Ira Hoffman Lane)
  • Route 229 at Route 9537 (Achievement Drive), southbound only

(UPDATE) Route 633 (Norman Road) – Placing stone along the shoulders from Route 719 (Mountain Run Lake Road) to Route 522 (Sperryville Pike). Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck. Obey traffic controls and use caution through the work zone.

(UPDATE) Route 633 (Hudson Mill Road) – Placing stone along the shoulders from Route 644 (Reva Road) to Route 643 (North Merrimac Road). Monday through Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck. Obey traffic controls and use caution through the work zone.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 3, 15, 20, 29, 229, 522 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 602, 610, 618, 626, 628, 640, 642, 651, 670, 671, 673, 675, 676, 682, 722, 730, 733, 735 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Routes 616, 633, 638 – Pavement patching.

 

 

Fauquier County

(NEW) Route 17 (James Madison Highway/Marsh Road) – Shoulder repair and work in the median will occur from the Interstate 66 interchange to the Stafford County line. Mobile lane closures will occur Monday through Wednesday during daytime hours. Motorists should obey traffic controls and use caution through the work zone.

(UPDATE) Route 28 (Catlett Road) – Tree trimming. Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon, alternating single lane closures will occur from Route 643 (Meetze Road) to the Prince William County line. Traffic will be controlled by flagging. Expect delays.

(UPDATE) Route 245 (Old Tavern Road) – Line striping and placing stone along the shoulders from Route 17 (Winchester Road) to approximately 0.4 mile north of Route 750 (Harrison Road). On Monday and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to noon, traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck. Expect delays.

(UPDATE) Route 688 (Leeds Manor Road) – Replacing bridge over Thumb Run. Intermittent shoulder and lane closures will occur Monday and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to noon. Anticipated completion July 2016.

  • Routes 17, 29, 211, 609 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 623, 651, 710, 712, 732 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 674, 688, 761 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Routes 680, 691 – Shoulder repair and ditching.

 

 

Fluvanna County

(UPDATE) Route 6 (East River Road) – Replacement of the Rivanna River bridge. Depending on weather and progress of work, traffic will be shifted onto the westbound lane of the new bridge Monday afternoon. Road reduced to one lane with two-way traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls as they approach the area. Anticipated completion summer 2016.

  • Routes 601, 608, 615, 659, 663, 674 – Mowing.

 

 

Greene County

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Route 810 – Pavement patching.

 

 

Louisa County

(UPDATE) Route 33 (Louisa Road) – Line painting from Route 22 (Louisa Road) to Route 1002 (South Street). Monday andTuesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to noon, a mobile work zone will reduce traffic to one lane. Obey traffic controls.

(UPDATE) Route 693 (Kents Mill Road) – Drainage pipe rehabilitation. Monday through Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., intermittent lane closures will occur approximately 2 miles north of Route 22 (Louisa Road). Traffic will be controlled by flagging.

 

 

Madison County

Route 231 (N. Blue Ridge Turnpike) – Replacement of bridge over Mulatto Run. Road reduced to one lane with two-way traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals. Anticipated completion Dec. 18.

 

 

Orange County

Route 20 (Constitution Highway) – Mowing along the corridor. Mobile lane closures will occur on Monday and Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

  • Routes 3, 20, 522 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 15, 33, 614, 697 – Shoulder repair and ditching.
  • Route 20 – Mowing.

 

 

Rappahannock County

(UPDATE) Route 211 (Lee Highway) – Guardrail installation from just west of Route 1003 (Sons Road) to approximately 0.3 mile west of Route 612 (Old Hollow Road). Westbound traffic reduced to one lane Monday and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to noon. Obey traffic controls.

(UPDATE) Route 211 (Lee Highway) – Paving and line striping from Route 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway) to approximately 0.6 mile west of Route 678 (Jordans Road). Eastbound traffic reduced to one lane Monday and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to noon. Obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

(UPDATE) Route 637 (Jericho Road) – Replacement of bridge over Big Indian Run. Intermittent lane closures will occurMonday and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to noon, with traffic controlled by flagging. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls as they approach the area. Anticipated completion May 2016.
