Culpeper District Traffic Alert: Jan. 11-15

road-work-headerThe following highway work is scheduled, weather permitting, in the Culpeper District during the upcoming week. Traffic movements may be restricted and speed limits reduced in work zones. (NEW) or (UPDATE) indicate revisions since last week’s report.

(UPDATE) Route 29/250 Bypass interchange – Contractor is installing storm drain structures; erecting a new traffic signal at Angus Road; building sidewalks and installing guardrail in the Route 29 median; and widening the ramp. Motorists should be alert for equipment entering and exiting the highway.

–        Monday through Wednesday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., expect periodic lane closures on Route 29 in both directions at the Route 250 Bypass.

–        Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., left lane closed in both directions on the Route 250 Bypass between Hydraulic Road and Barracks Road. Traffic on the ramp from the Route 250 Bypass to Route 29 north will be stopped and directed by flaggers. Obey traffic controls.

 

(UPDATE) Rio Road grade-separated intersection – Utility relocation work continues in the vicinity of the Rio Road intersection. The following work on Route 29 is scheduled Sunday, Jan. 10 through Friday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.:

–        Alternating triple lane closures will be in place on northbound Route 29 from Fashion Square Drive to Albemarle Square. Motorists wishing to turn left from Route 29 to Rio Road should use Berkmar Drive as the detour route.

–        Alternating triple lane closures will be in place on southbound Route 29 from Albemarle Square to Fashion Square Drive. Motorists wishing to turn left from Route 29 to Rio Road should use Branchlands Boulevard and Hillsdale Drive as the detour route.

–        Both directions of Rio Road will be closed in the vicinity of the intersection with a single lane open for local business traffic. Motorists wishing to reach Route 29 should follow posted detour signs.

–        Right lane closed at the intersection of Rio Road and Berkmar Drive.

 

(UPDATE) Route 29 widening – Median clearing from Polo Grounds Road to Towncenter Drive. The following work is scheduled Sunday, Jan. 10 through Friday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.:

–        Single alternating lane closures will be in place in both directions on Route 29 between Towncenter Drive and Rio Mills Road.

–        Intermittent lane closures and periodic traffic stops on Route 29 will occur for temporary signal installation between Ashwood Boulevard and North Hollymead Drive. Motorists should use caution approaching the intersections.

 

 

Albemarle County

Interstate 64 – Installation of infrastructure and devices for active traffic management system on Afton Mountain. Left shoulder closed in both directions between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday from mile marker 107 (Crozet exit) to mile marker 94 in Augusta County. Motorists should keep right and use caution approaching the work zone. Anticipated completion Feb. 27.

(NEW) Interstate 64 – Repairs to the eastbound and westbound bridges over Route 682 (Broad Axe Road). Monday through Friday, intermittent lane and shoulder closures may occur on I-64 and on Route 682 at the bridges. Motorists should remain alert for workers near the travel lanes, and for equipment entering and exiting the highway.

Route 677 (Broomley Road) – Bridge replacement. Minor finishing work will require intermittent single lane closures with traffic controlled by flaggers. Motorists should anticipate brief delays during daytime work hours.

Route 719 (Alberene Road) – Replacement of drainage pipe. Road closed from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday between Route 793 (Serene Lane) and Route 717 (Secretarys Sand Road). Motorists should follow posted detour route.

(NEW) Route 746 (Fosters Branch Road) – Replacement of drainage pipe. Single lane closure with flagging will occur from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.Monday through Friday. Obey traffic controls.

(NEW) Route 784 (Doctors Crossing) – Paving of gravel road. Wednesday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., mobile lane closures with flagging will occur.

Route 854 (Carrsbrook Drive) – Finishing work on drainage pipe rehabilitation project. Intermittent lane closures with flagging will occur between Route 1432 (North Indian Spring Road) and Route 1419 (Marlboro Court). Expect minor delays.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 20, 602, 676 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 614, 627, 637, 696, 708, 743, 795 – Shoulder repair and ditching.
  • Routes 639, 645, 646, 712, 713 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Routes 719, 746 – Pipe replacement.

 

 

Culpeper County

Route 3 (Germanna Highway) – Roadway widening to four lanes. Clearing, excavation and utility relocation will occur along the route from Stevensburg to Lignum. Motorists should be alert for workers near the travel lanes and for trucks entering and exiting the highway. Speed limit reduced to 45 mph in the work zone.

(UPDATE) Route 29 (James Madison Highway) – Construction of new interchange at Route 666 (Braggs Corner Road). Intermittent lane closures will occur Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Speed limit reduced to 35 mph on Route 666 and to 50 mph on Route 29 through the work zone. Anticipated completion August 2017.

Route 784 (Western Outer Loop) – Construction of new roadway. Preliminary work will require intermittent shoulder closures at the Route 522 (Sperryville Pike) and Route 729 (Eggbornsville Road) intersections. Anticipated completion November 2017.

  • Route 20 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 601, 611, 616, 624, 625, 626, 628, 629, 642, 650, 721, 729, 730 – Shoulder repairs and ditching.
  • Routes 601, 617, 629, 643, 645, 649, 652 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 602, 603, 617, 624, 626, 628, 639, 647, 648, 651, 655, 663, 668, 693, 706, 710, 713, 714, 722, 724, 734 – Machining of gravel roads.

 

 

Fauquier County

Route 688 (Leeds Manor Road) – Replacing bridge over Thumb Run. Intermittent lane closures will occur from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls as they approach the area. Anticipated completion July 2016.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 17 north, 604, 607, 670, 709, 802, 805 – Shoulder repairs and ditching.
  • Routes 28, 670 – Pipe repairs.
  • Route 616 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 602, 688, 732, 743, 1409, 1462, 1464 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 622, 628, 674, 688, 689, 692, 698, 704, 711, 724, 729, 734, 735, 737, 739, 780, 761, 808 – Machining of gravel roads.

 

 

Fluvanna County

Route 6 (East River Road) – Replacement of the Rivanna River bridge. Road reduced to one lane with two-way traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls as they approach the area. Anticipated completion summer 2016.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Route 6 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Route 608 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 601, 630, 632 – Shoulder repairs and ditching.

 

 

Greene County

Route 642 (Simms Road) – Paving of gravel road. Mobile lane closures with flagging will occur from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Obey traffic controls.

 

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Route 33 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Route 626 – Shoulder repair and ditching.

 

 

Louisa County

(NEW) Route 663 (Owens Creek Road) – Replacing bridge over Owens Creek. Road closed daily from Route 611 (Dongola Road) to 0.8 mile south of Route 610 (Holly Grove Drive). During the closure, northbound traffic will be detoured on Route 611 south to Route 250 (Broad Street Road) to Route 522 (Cross Country Road), which carries motorists back to Route 663. Southbound traffic will reverse the detour. Anticipated completion Jan. 29.

Route 699 (Indian Creek Road) – Paving of gravel road. Mobile lane closures with flagging will occur from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Obey traffic controls.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 22, 604 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 617, 636, 638, 640, 647, 698, 699, 755 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Routes 613, 630, 640 – Shoulder repair and ditching.

 

 

Orange County

(NEW) Route 15 (James Madison Highway) – Tree trimming between Route 690 (Black Level Road) and the town of Gordonsville. Single lane closures with flagging will occur on Thursday between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Expect delays.

(NEW) Route 20 (Constitution Highway) – Tree trimming northbound between Route 629 (Lahore Road) and Route 2015 (Walters Road). Single lane closures with flagging will occur on Tuesday during daytime hours. Expect delays.

(UPDATE) Route 231 (Blue Ridge Turnpike) – Tree trimming in both directions from Route 33 in Orange County to Route 230 in Madison County. Single lane closures with flagging will occur Monday through Friday during daytime hours. Expect delays of up to five minutes.

(NEW) Route 643 (Cox Mill Road) – Tree trimming in both directions between Route 690 (Black Level Road) and Route 639 (Madison Run Road/Mallorys Ford Road). Single lane closures with flagging will occur on Monday during daytime hours. Expect delays.

  • Routes 15, 643 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 20, 602, 603, 617, 647, 655 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Route 20 – Pipe repair/replacement.
  • Route 20 – Shoulder repairs and ditching.

 

 

Rappahannock County

(UPDATE) Route 211 (Lee Highway) – Tree trimming in both directions from the Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department to Thornton Gap. The right lane will be closed Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Expect delays of up to five minutes.

(UPDATE) Route 637 (Jericho Road) – Replacement of bridge over Big Indian Run. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures with flagging, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Anticipated completion May 2.

  • Route 211 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 615, 616, 649, 650 – Machining of gravel roads.
