Cueto dominant, Reds make it five in a row over Nats, win 5-0

nationals_logoJohnny Cueto shut out the Nats on two hits, and the Cincinnati Reds defeated Washington for the fifth straight time in 2015, by a final of 5-0 Tuesday night at Nationals Park.

Cueto (6-5, 2.61 ERA) gave up a first-inning single to Bryce Harper and a fifth-inning leadoff triple to Ian Desmond, and that was it for the Nats, who got a rare rough outing from Max Scherzer (9-7, 2.12 ERA).

Scherzer gave up five runs on seven hits in four and two-thirds innings, his shortest outing of the season, striking out four with no walks.

Cueto struck out 11 and walked one, throwing 122 pitches, 84 for strikes, in his first complete game of the season.

The Reds (38-44) got on the board in the first with an RBI double from Joey Votto and an RBI triple from Jay Bruce.

Votto hit a solo homer, his 15th, in the third, then added an RBI single in the fifth, ahead of a sacrifice-fly RBI from Todd Frazier.

Washington (46-38) has a three and a half game lead in the National League East.
