Ken Cuccinelli has spent the past two weeks touring businesses and facilities that play a critical role in Virginia’s energy industry. Thursday afternoon, Cuccinelli wrapped up a four-hour tour of Paramount Deep Mine 41 in McClure.
During the tour, Ken had the opportunity to meet with a number of employees and learn about the technology and day-to-day operations of the mine. Cuccinelli believes coal-fired power plants will play an integral part of Virginia’s energy future. Not only do Virginia coal mines play a pivotal role in the economy, they are also responsible for keeping energy prices manageable for businesses and households throughout the Commonwealth. Ken Cuccinelli has long recognized that federal regulations, originating from the Environmental Protection Agency and other agencies, are stifling job growth and opportunity in Virginia.
As attorney general, he fought the federal Office of Surface Mining from attempting to bypass states’ authority to impose burdensome and anti-competitive regulations on Virginia mines.
Recently, the attorney general published an op-ed in which he explained why an all-of-the-above energy policy that includes traditional sources of energy like coal will be critical to securing Virginia’s economic future.
