route 29Lane closures will resume tonight on the Rio Road grade-separated intersection project. Between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. traffic will be restricted to one lane north and southbound on Route 29 (Seminole Trail). Motorists should watch for signs directing traffic through the work zone, observe the 35 mph speed limit and be alert for workers and equipment near the open travel lane.

The Rio Road crossover will also be closed during the same hours. Left turns from Route 29 onto Rio Road will also be prohibited. Through traffic traveling north and south on Route 29 will be maintained.  Right turns will be permitted from Route 29 onto Rio Road and from Rio Road eastbound to Route 29 southbound.

Business entrances on Route 29 north and south of the intersection, and on Rio Road east and west of Route 29, will remain open during the overnight work. Signed detours will be in place to direct traffic on Rio Road around the work zone.

Work on the Route 29 widening project between the South Fork Rivanna River and Hollymead will likely not resume until the snow melts and the ground begins to dry out. The 40 mph speed limit remains in effect through the work zone and motorists should drive with caution.

The contractor for the three Route 29 Solutions design-build projects has established a toll-free telephone number for residents to call regarding questions or issues related to those projects. Calls to the number, 844-220-5540, will be returned by Lane-Corman Joint Venture staff within one business day.
