Columbia Gas of Virginia energy efficiency program saves customers millions

columbia gasOctober is Energy Action Month and Columbia Gas of Virginia’s WarmWise program can help customers save on energy bills through a free home savings evaluation, free energy efficiency kits and cash back rebates. To date, the WarmWise program has saved the company’s participating customers more than $8 million.

“We want to help our customers save energy and money,” said Carla Dix, WarmWise program manager.  “We have worked to make participating in the WarmWise program easy for our residential and business customers. I think our success is shown in the millions of dollars we have helped our customers save.”

Carla Dix explained that customers can get started at WarmWiseVA.com. There, residential customers can start by taking the company’s free home savings evaluation. The evaluation is an online audit that generates a personalized report about what can be done to save energy and money. For completing the home savings evaluation, qualifying customers will be sent a free energy efficiency kit featuring items that can be easily installed in their homes to help them save.

In addition, WarmWise offers residential rebates for customers to save by upgrading to energy efficient equipment for their homes. Currently rebates are available for the following qualifying equipment items– high-efficiency gas furnaces, insulation, doors, windows, skylights and smart thermostats.

Rebates are available for business customers as well. This year, smart thermostats were added to the business customer rebate offerings and are a simple to install item that can help customers save energy.

“October, being Energy Action Month and a time when the weather begins to cool down a bit, provides a great opportunity for energy-saving upgrades,” Carla Dix said. “Not only can customers save now through our rebates, but then throughout the year when they use less energy.”

Customers can receive multiple rebates. For example, a customer who adds the appropriate amount of floor and attic insulation and installs new qualifying windows can receive three rebates. Rebate quantities are limited and a complete list of eligible equipment items and rebate amounts can be found at WarmWiseVA.com.

Since Columbia Gas of Virginia launched the WarmWise program in 2010, business and residential customers have collectively saved more than $8 million on their natural gas bills. More than 35,000 customers have participated in the program.
