Closed section of Appalachian Trail In Shenandoah National Park reopens

shenandoah national park“The section of the Appalachian Trail closed by the Rocky Mtn Fire in Shenandoah National Park is now open,” said Superintendent Jim Northup. “Thanks, again, to the firefighters for all their work.” While some trail closures remain in place, the following trails are now open to hikers in the park.

Trails Open: Appalachian Trail, Furnace Mountain Trail, Trayfoot Mountain Trail, Blackrock Trail, Doyles River Trail, Jones Run Trail, Browns Gap Fire Road, Madison Run Fire Road. Also open is the Doyles River Cabin.

Trails Still Closed: Rocky Mount Trail, Gap Run Trail, Onemile Run Trail, Brown Mountain Trail, Big Run Portal Trail, Big Run Loop, Rocky Mountain Trail, Austin Mountain Trail, Lewis Peak Trail, Patterson Ridge Trail, Madison Run Spur, Rockytop Trail.

Rehabilitation on the closed trails continues as conditions permit. There is no estimated reopening date other than as soon as safely possible.
