In June, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed the Clean Power Plan, an historic step to limit carbon pollution from power plants for the first time. Virginia’s leaders, Senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner, and Governor Terry McAuliffe, already understand that the science of climate change is real and impacting the state. At Saturday’s rally, citizens will urge our leaders to take further action, by supporting the EPA’s plan and push to grow Virginia’s clean energy industry with energy efficiency, wind and solar power.
The rally comes as Senators Kaine and Warner are about to head back to Washington, DC after the summer recess and may have to vote on amendments that will try to limit EPA’s ability to move forward with the Clean Power Plan.
The rally also comes just 2 weeks before hundreds of Virginians, and a bus load from Charlottesville and Central Virginia, plan to join over 100,000 people from around the country in world in New York City for the People’s Climate March, the largest climate demonstration in history.
