Chris Graham: Grading the NFL Draft

football600“Why did you give that pick an A?”

Well, it’s obvious, isn’t it?

“Because I had them picking that guy in my mock draft.”

“Oh.”

It’s not that I have absolutely any clue as to how the kid is going to work out for his team. The 2013 NFL Draft is still ongoing; the season is five months away.

“So why did you give that one a D-minus?”

Um, again, come on!

“Because they shouldn’t have taken him there. I mean, seriously! I had them picking a defensive end. And they took … a linebacker? Puh-leeze.”

“So … they took who they wanted, not … who you had them taking in your mock draft.”

“Yeah.”

“Why did this team get a B?”

“Well, they took a defensive end, and I had them taking a defensive end. And I had them taking a kid from Alabama. They took a kid from Georgia. Same conference. The kid from Georgia may end up working out better, so …”

“Have you ever had anything to do with running an NFL team?”

“No.”

“Ever play football? Spent a year as student manager? Run a 40?”

“No.”

“So you’re an expert at this … how?”

“I majored in journalism.”

“Gotcha.”

“Oh, and I won my fantasy football league in 2009.”

“Brilliant.”
