Charlottesville PD investigating phone call with Crying Nazi

charlottesvilleA Charlottesville police dispatcher seemed to agree with “Crying Nazi” Chris Cantwell that “anti-fascism protestors ought to be put through wood chippers,” according to a report from the Right Wing Watch blog.

The blog reports that Cantwell posted audio of a phone call exchange with the dispatcher.

“I imagine you guys are getting a bunch of calls about a bunch of communists who want you to release people. I’ve got to tell you, jail is too good for these people. They ought to be put through a wood chipper, and I’m glad you guys are cleaning up the streets,” Cantwell said in the recording.

“Well, that’s awesome,” the dispatcher said. “Thanks for your support.”

“You’ve got a communist problem in that city, and they have to feel law and order, or things are going to get worse,” Cantwell said.

“Well, actually, we’re due for another doozy here in August,” the dispatcher said, referring to plans for an anniversary white supremacy rally on Aug. 12.

The City of Charlottesville responded to the blog report today with a statement to the media.

“The Charlottesville Police Department has been notified of an audio recording of one of its employees speaking with an outside party. The Charlottesville Police Department is reviewing this as a personnel matter following the department’s complaint process.

“When the department receives inquiries related to performance of its personnel an internal review is conducted of the incident, the employee, and our policies. The City of Charlottesville and our police department want all employee interactions with the public to be fair, appropriate, and within department guidelines at all times.

“No additional information will be released at this time.”
