Charlottesville opens new disc golf course

Contributors

CharlottesvilleThe public is invited to the grand opening of the Meadow Creek Gardens Disc Golf Course (2030 Morton Drive) on Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm.

The 2013 Master Plan for the Meadow Creek Stream Valley included a proposal for a 9-hole disc golf course in the woods on City parkland near the existing community gardens, behind Bodo’s Bagels and the English Inn on Morton Drive.

Thanks to the hard work of many volunteers, especially members of the Blue Ridge Disc Golf Club, the course is open and ready for play. The BRDGC also donated the baskets and other materials for the course.

On Saturday, there will be free playing discs while supplies last.

The course is mostly wooded with a few holes in open grassy areas. Other improvements to support the course include a picnic table, portable toilet, and new park sign showcasing the course and gardens.

A bridge over Meadow Creek is in the planning stages and could be open by 2016, making the full course easier to walk. The course cost approximately $5,000 to construct and is free to use and open to the general public.
