The Mount Jackson Democrat is challenging likely Republican nominee Bob Goodlatte, a 20-year incumbent, in the Sixth District congressional race. It’s not easy to be a Democrat in the heavily Republican Sixth, which stretches from Shenandoah County in the north to Roanoke to the south, but Schmookler, an accomplished author, social commentator and college professor, is undaunted by the task that lies ahead. March for Meals Scheduled for March 17
The Mu chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Pi at James Madison University is hosting its very first “March for Meals” on Saturday, March 17.
The March for Meals is a benefit 5k or 1-mile “march” to help our local philanthropy, Valley Program for Aging Services. VPAS is a local organization that provides Meals on Wheels among other services designed to help older adults stay in their homes and communities for as long as possible. SMAC brings 65 kids to Virginia Y Champs
The Shenandoah Marlins Aquatic Club, which practices at the Waynesboro Y, competed in the Virginia Y Championships held in Lynchburg on Feb. 12.
The Virginia Y Champs is open to all YMCA teams in Virginia. Y teams make up approximately 30 percent of the swimmers in the state. Be heart healthy during American Heart Month
February is American Heart Month and as a leading nonprofit dedicated to strengthening community through healthy living, the Waynesboro Family YMCA urges everyone in Waynesboro and East Augusta area to take steps to prevent chronic diseases, such as heart disease, so they can lead longer, healthier lives.
To address the prevalence of heart disease in the United States, the Y made a commitment to the Million Hearts campaign, an initiative spearheaded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services that aims to prevent 1 million heart attacks and strokes over the next five years. RMH Home and Farm Safety Day set for March 10
RMH will host the RMH/Bowman/Progressive Agriculture Home and Farm Safety Day on March 10 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Rockingham County Fair Grounds.
