Bridgewater College Symphonic Band to present musical journey

bridgewaterThe Bridgewater College Symphonic Band will present “A Musical Journey Around the World” on Thursday, March 6, at 7:30 p.m., in Cole Hall. The Symphonic Band is directed by Dr. Christine Carrillo, assistant professor of music and director of instrumental music at Bridgewater College.

The concert will feature folk songs and dance music from six countries: Korea, Russia, France, England, mexico and the United States.

The program will include “Variations on a Korean Folk Song” by John Barnes Chance, “From russia with Music,” arranged by James K. Taylor and the world premiere of Joseph Arnaud’s “Tunes My Father Whistled.”

The band will also present “First Suite in Eb,” Movement III by Gustav Holst, La Fiesta Mexicana,” Movement III by H. Owen Reed and Robert Russell Bennett’s “Suite of Old American Dances.”

The concert is free and open to the public.

Bridgewater College is a private, four-year liberal arts college located in the Central Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Founded in 1880, it was the state’s first private, coeducational college. Today, Bridgewater College is home to approximately 1,850 undergraduate students.
