richmond-squirrelsThe Bowie Baysox (67-66) prevented the Richmond Flying Squirrels (74-60) from clinching a playoff spot with a, 1-0, shutout win on Sunday afternoon at The Diamond.  Richmond’s magic number to claim a post-season spot remains two at the completion of their home stand.

The Baysox scored the only run of the day off lefty Adalberto Mejia in the second inning.  Garabez Rosa sparked the inning when he lined a one-out double into the right-field corner.  Chris Marrero followed and cracked a single back through the middle to plate Rosa for a 1-0 lead.

Mejia (6-9) settled in and delivered a strong performance over seven innings.  He allowed just the lone run on five hits, walked one and struck out three.  He was saddled with the hard-luck loss.

Bowie lefty Nick Additon (1-1) stymied the Squirrels for six innings.  He allowed just three hits.   He worked around four walks with the help of six strikeouts.  He earned his first Eastern League win of the year.

Right-hander Gene Escat followed Additon with two scoreless innings to bridge the ballgame to the ninth inning.  Right-hander Oliver Drake took it from there.  He retired the side in order to earn his league-leading 28th save of the year.

The Squirrels embark on their final regular season road trip on Monday as they travel to Altoona, PA, to open a four-game series with the Altoona Curve (Pittsburgh Pirates).  The series-opener is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Peoples Natural Gas Field as Richmond LHP Jack Snodgrass (10-6, 3.80) will make the start against Bowie RHP Angel Sanchez (0-1, 4.91).  The Flying Squirrels Pregame Warmup will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Sports Radio 910 and SportsRadio910.com.
