Bluegrass Night at the Wayne on playbill for Saturday

wayne theatreThe Wayne Theatre and some of the area’s finest bluegrass musicians will roll out the welcome mat this holiday season to raise money for a worthwhile cause.

The Wayne Theatre will present Bluegrass Night on Saturday, Nov. 26, at 7 p.m., featuring performances by Scott Linton, Jessie Pugh, Charles Frazier and Virginia Run.

Tickets are $25/$30.

“This should be a great night for local bluegrass fans with some of the top names on the circuit in Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic,” said Tracy Straight, the executive director of the Wayne Theatre.

Scott Linton was born in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. To live there is to be influenced by its beauty and it’s history. And that includes the music that has grown from this region. Scott’s style isn’t bluegrass. it’s not county, it’s not americana … it’s all of it!

Charlie Frazier started out playing with Alvin Breeden in the ’70s.  He has also shared the stage with the likes of Don Reno, Charlie Waller, and Jimmy Martin, just to name a few.  Charlie lays down a powerful rhythm guitar, matched in intensity only by his high lonesome, heartfelt singing.

Jessie Pugh is a 17-year-old country singer/songwriter from Bridgewater. Her passion and love for music started at a young age when she would sing gospel songs in church with her granddad. As she grew older, she fell more in love with music and decided to pursue it even further.

Band members for Virginia Run include:

  • Guitarist Josh Pickett, who took first place at the 2001 Merlefest guitar competition.
  • Larry Taylor (vocals) grew up in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains and spent over two decades playing electric music before returning to his acoustic roots.
  • Originally from North Carolina, guitarist Mike Ketchum owns and operates Blue Ridge Recording in Luray, Va.
  • Ron Rigsby grew up in the eastern Kentucky hills and plays rhythm guitar and banjo on this CD. After a ten year absence from music, it’s good to see him contributing to Virginia Run’s professional sound.

Bluegrass Night at the Wayne is sponsored by Cornerstone Wealth Advisors LLC, Blue Ridge Recording, Tamara Talley-Campbell and WNRN.

The Wayne Theatre/Ross Performing Arts Center is located at 521 West Main Street in downtown Waynesboro.

Tickets are on sale now at the Wayne Theatre box office from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, online at WayneTheatre.org, or at the theatre box office on the day of the event.
