Big Bill Morganfield ™ comes to his blues honestly, in a manner of speaking.
The son of legendary bluesman Muddy Waters, Morganfield, who will perform at the Wayne Theatre in Waynesboro on Friday, Sept. 23, at 8 p.m., had little contact with his father, and didn’t get his start in music until after Waters’ death in 1983.
A teacher with a degree in English from Tuskegee and a communications degree from Auburn, Morganfield didn’t get his big break in music until 1996, and even then he was reluctant to give up his day job.
“Knowing the story of Big Bill Morganfield™, it makes seeing him perform live in person that much more special,” said Tracy Straight, executive director of the Wayne Theatre, which is teaming up with the Virginia Chili, Blues n’ Brews Festival to bring Morganfield to Waynesboro.
Tickets to the performance at the Wayne Theatre are $20/$25. Tickets may be purchased at the box office on Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., online until 5 p.m., or at the box office at 7 p.m.
