Writing an essay is a typical task in most schools, colleges, and universities. Even though students need to do it really often, it may be a problem to make a good essay that will bring a high grade. So, when writing it, it is important to determine (clarify) its topic, to define the desired scope and goals of each paragraph.

Begin with the main idea or an interesting phrase. The task is to immediately grab the attention of the reader. It requires some time and experience to do it successfully. Sometimes it is reasonable to address the writers of RapidEssay to receive the best result. At the same time, it is a good idea to use a comparative allegory when an unexpected fact or event is associated with the main topic of the essay.

Essay Writing Rules

The internal structure of an essay can be arbitrary. Despite this is a small form of writing, it is still necessary to repeat the conclusions at the end, they can not be included in the main text or the heading. At the same time, argumentation may precede the formulation of the problem. The statement of the problem may coincide with the final conclusion. It is essential to understand whether you need to follow all the official rules or you are free to create your own.

An essay is an idea addressed to a prepared reader (audience). That is, to a person who, in general terms, already imagines what will be discussed. This allows the author of the assignment to focus on revealing the new and not clutter up the text with official details. The writer should describe the background in the introductory paragraph and then come straight to the main ideas. It makes the text much more serious and demonstrates that the student avoids milk-and-water in his or her essay.

Errors in Writing an Essay

Unlike tests, essays do not suggest multiple-choice format (when you are offered several answers to choose from). Writing it is not limited in time, you can rewrite it many times, ask friends to read your written work. Take advantage of all the possibilities and try to avoid common mistakes.

  • Absence of proofreading

Do not think that you can confine yourself to spellcheck. Reread your essay and make sure that there are no ambiguous expressions, unsuccessful turns, etc. Examples that should not be used:

“I am proud that I was able to resist the use of drugs, alcohol, tobacco.”

“To work in your company (organization), located in a wonderful place where there is a lot of Gothic architecture, will be an exciting problem for me.”

  • Tiring preface

Too often, an interesting written work loses in what is a listing of the statements without illustrating them with examples. The essay is characterized by the usual cliches: the importance of hard work and perseverance, learning from mistakes, etc.

  • Verbosity

Essays are limited to a certain number of words, so you need to use this amount wisely. Sometimes this means giving up some ideas or details, especially if they have already been mentioned somewhere or are not directly related to the case. Such things only distract the reader and overshadow the main topic of the text.

  • Long phrases

The longer the sentence is, the better — some students think so. However, this is far from the truth. Long phrases do not prove that the author is correct and short sentences often produce a greater effect. It is best when in an essay long phrases alternate with short ones. Try reading the text out loud. If you feel your breath catch, break the paragraph into smaller paragraphs.

When you finish writing an essay, do this exercise. Assign a letter to each sentence: either S (short), or M (medium), or L (long). S — less than 10 words, M — less than 20 words, L – 20 or more words. The correct structure has the following or similar letter order — M S M L M S. An incorrect essay characterizes this sequence of letters — S S S M L L L.

  • Do Not Overload the Essay

When writing an essay, drop the words from the encyclopedias. The incorrect use of such words distracts the reader’s attention, downplays the importance of the assignment.

Avoiding such common mistakes, you can interest the professor in your experience or your ideas.
