ben cullopBen Cullop announced Tuesday that he is dropping out of the race for the Fifth District Democratic congressional nomination.

Statement from Ben Cullop:

“Today, I am ending my campaign for Congress. It has been a privilege to travel across the Fifth District over the last eight months to hear from a diverse group of people and try to give voice to their concerns. While my campaign comes to a close, I remain fully committed to working on behalf of my hometown, my community, and to ensuring that a Democrat is sworn into the 116th Congress as the representative from Virginia’s Fifth District.

“Let us remain committed to the kind of politics that rises above the fray and the special interests, that focuses on good governance for the people that build it, and that ensures all people have an equal opportunity to succeed. Tom Garrett has proven he is in politics for himself and his donors, and remains committed to an extreme ideology – not his constituents.

“Thank you to my supporters and the volunteers who made this campaign possible, and thank you to my family and friends for having my back through the highs and lows. It means the world to me.

“I have enjoyed getting to know my fellow candidates. I believe they are all committed to serving the people of the Fifth District. I look forward to working hard for whomever the nominee is, and a Democratic victory in November.”
