Baltimore escapes late Washington rally in third straight win

Daniel Murphy (.347/.391/.611, 24 HR, 95 RBI) hit a grand slam with nobody out in the ninth to cut the Orioles lead to 10-7.

Bryce Harper (.249/.386/.455, 22 HR, 68 RBI) singled, and Anthony Rendon (.274/.355/.461, 16 HR, 60 RBI) brought him home with an RBI double to make it 10-8.

Wilson Ramos hit into a fielder’s choice for the first out of the inning, and Ryan Zimmerman hit into a game-ending double play.

Nats starter Tanner Roark (13-7, 2.99 ERA, 1.19 WHIP) was battered for five runs, four earned, on seven hits in five innings, striking out four and walking three in absorbing the loss for Washington (73-53), which has a seven-game lead on Miami (66-60) in the NL East despite having now lost four games in a row.

Wade Miley (8-10, 5.51 ERA, 1.43 WHIP) earned his first win as an Oriole, giving up two runs on seven hits in five innings of work, striking out six and walking one.

Manny Machado (.306/.359/.557, 29 HR, 78 RBI) had a huge night for Baltimore (70-56), going 4-for-6 with a homer and four RBI.
