neil kesterAugusta County Sheriff Candidate Neil Kester issued a statement Wednesday in response to comments from Commonwealth Attorney Lee Ervin about the investigation into the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office concerning money missing from the department’s evidence room.

“After reading the Commonwealth Attorney’s comments in today’s News Virginian article, I fully support the investigative efforts and believe in transparency. The citizens of Augusta County deserve an honest, unbiased investigation. I also have the utmost faith in our local justice system and I am hopeful that a quick and accurate conclusion of this investigation will be made public. I believe those, if any, who are responsible should be held accountable and punished to the fullest extent of the law. My administration will not tolerate any betrayal of trust of the citizens of Augusta County. I have no doubt that the majority of the deputies are good, hard-working and honest law enforcement officers. I look forward to being your next sheriff and ensuring that this type of incident will not occur again under my administration. ”
