Dovel, Daniel PaulThe Waynesboro Police Department has arrested an Augusta County man responsible for the April 24 fire that destroyed two vehicles in the 1000 block of Frye Street.

Officers have obtained a felony warrant for Daniel Paul Dovel, 41,  Greenville, for maliciously burning the property of another valued at over $200.

Early in the investigation, the police department considered Dovel a suspect in the case. As a result of the fire, Dovel sustained burns to his hands and forearms. When officers interviewed Dovel recently, he explained he was just trying to steal gas from the vehicles when the fire started. Dovel and the victims are related.

Dovel surrendered himself at the police department at 11:30 a.m. Monday. He is being held without bond at Middle River Regional Jail.
