Area libraries to host Teen Comic Con

radio-header2Augusta County, Staunton and Waynesboro Libraries are partnering to host a Comic Con for teens July 10 through 12.  The free event will change location each day and will feature art and costume contests, anime screenings, exhibits and and food.

Comic Con will open at the Waynesboro Public Library on Thursday, July 10 from 5 to 8 p.m.; move to the Staunton Public Library Friday, July 11 from 2 to 7 p.m.; and conclude at the Fishersville Library Saturday, July 12 from 1 to 5 p.m.

The event, which is modeled after the conventions that are popular in the comic and sci fi world, will also feature a graphic novel and comic sale, performances, a candy sushi station and freebies. Activities will vary by location, but will all be appropriate for teens ages 11 to 18.

ACL librarian Elzena Anderson says, “We are creating a safe venue for local teens to celebrate and share their interest in graphic novels, comic books, science fiction, anime and manga.”

The event will also encourage participants to create and display artwork inspired by the characters and stories they enjoy.  In addition, attendees can wear costumes, providing opportunities for photographs with friends and favorite characters.
