Political commentator Ann Coulter, House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) and economist Stephen Moore will address the 26th Washington and Lee University Mock Convention, Feb. 11-13 in Lexington.
Coulter, author and conservative commentator on social and political issues, Goodlatte, an 11-term Republican, and Stephen Moore, distinguished visiting fellow of the Project for Economic Growth at The Heritage Foundation, have joined other major political figures, including Newt Gingrich, Grover Norquist and Kristen Anderson, who will speak to the more than 1,500 student delegates to “Mock Con.”
W&L students have staged a mock political convention during presidential election years since 1908, nominating their presidential and vice presidential candidates for the party out of power in the White House. They’ve been right 19 of 25 times, missing only two Republican nominees and none since 1948. The 2016 convention will focus on the GOP candidates and follow the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary.
Coulter has written 11 books, is legal correspondent for the conservative online news outlet Human Events and is a syndicated newspaper columnist. A frequent guest about political topics on network television and radio talk programs, she graduated with honors from Cornell University before earning her law degree from the University of Michigan.
Goodlatte, who has served in Congress since 1993, also is vice chairman of the House Agriculture Committee, co-chairman of the bipartisan Congressional Internet Caucus, chairman of the House Republican High Technology Working Group and co-chairman of the Congressional International Anti-Piracy Caucus. He is a graduate of Washington and Lee School of Law.
Moore formerly wrote on the economy and public policy for The Wall Street Journal and was a member of its editorial board. He previously worked at The Heritage Foundation from 1984-87 as the conservative think tank’s Grover M. Hermann Fellow in Budgetary Affairs. He focuses on advancing public policies that increase the rate of economic growth to help the United States retain its position as the global economic superpower.
