Elder Justice workshop in Staunton


The Staunton Senior Center is hosting a conference on elder justice on Wednesday, June 15.

The Learn More, Do More Mini-Conference for Elder Justice begins with 9 a.m. registration and features three workshops beginning at 10 a.m.

The 10 a.m. workshop is titled Overview of Abuse, Neglect and Financial Exploitation and Adult Protective Services. It will be led by Linda Matkins, ASP worker with the Shenandoah Valley Department of Social Services.

The 11 a.m. workshop is titled Self-Neglect. The speaker is Kim Galloway, RN, a case manager with Augusta Health, who will talk on self-neglect and identify risk factors and signs of self-neglect, as well as what can be done by friends and neighbors to help people in these situations.

The 1 p.m. closing workshop is a panel discussion on financial exploitation of older adults.

The guest speakers for the final workshop are Anna See of Blue Ridge Legal Services, Cpl. Derek Almarode of the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office, Betzi Bostic of Blue Ridge Legal Services and Suzie Dull of StellarOne Bank.
